    Hi all,

I'm new to these forums. I recently bought an E1705 and I love it except my 5-in-1 media card reader hasn't worked right from day one. When I insert my memory stick card, I have to push it in pretty hard for the comuter to read it. It shows up just fine under My Computer, no problems there. But when I take my finger off of it, it will slide back out a little and the computer will no longer read it. So basically, if I want my computer to read it, I have to keep it pushed in with my finger. Does that make any sense? This doesn't seem right to me at all. Has anyone else experienced this? I think I might contact Dell tonight, but I really *hate* calling Dell tech support. They suck so bad.

    Thanks in advance!
    -Sara

    Hmm...

Interesting problem and is definately hardware related - you may have to get your notebook exchanged/repaired to solve this problem. However, I'd be careful if you're going to do a return/exchange - Dell is currently out of the 7800 Go, so you'd have to wait about a month or two before you'd get your replacement.

Yeah, i'm with AMD. Something is actually wrong with the hardware. The good news is that depending on your warranty, Dell will send a tech out within a business day to fix it - if you have the at home service.

I once had a reader which read both sd and memory stick in the same slot, if this one works this way I sometimes had problems with I think it was memory sticks because the card had to be wiggled to get it to actually slip in all the way.

Does the Dell one work this way? If so see if wiggling fixes it.

yes they all fit in one little slot so that could very likely be the problem

it's supposed to click into place... are you pushing it far enough in that it clicks ?

I can understand about the size issue, but wasn't the card reader on this system suppose to be able to read all 5 cards without any problems? I mean, i would expect the cards to be a bit loose, but you shouldn't have to hold the card in order to read it.

Are you having this problem with different types of cards or just a certain type of card?

Thanks for your replies! I tried wiggling it and pushing it in a little harder and it finally clicked in place! So I guess there is nothing wrong with the hardware, I just need to make sure I wiggle it and push hard enough. Thanks again!

my SD cards just kinda pop in and you push in to eject, is that how it is with a memory stick?

bigmo- the memory stick works the same way, but I have to push pretty hard...much harder than what feels natural.

Weird my sd card is very natural possibly because it has to fit in a smaller hole is why your memory stick works hard. But I'm glad you got it figured out, technology is awesome and I love it....when it works lol
