Dell 1537. Vista 64 bit- all MS updates. Device Manager is perfect.

When I insert a 4 GB SD Card - nothing. (It's always been this way)

Everything else on the laptop works very well.

I am above average geeky - but all drivers appear correct

    thanks

Do smaller cards work? Like a 2 gb? How about a Memory Stick?

Can you try the card in a different machine or maybe a card reader or camera?

OK, I have tried 3 different machines - nothing (and it is not "locked")

    Nothing.

I think perhaps the SD Card is toast..

Yeah. But just to make sure, try getting your hands on another card so you can test your reader and see if it's working.

Did you actually install the SD card reader drivers? I know on the 1640, device manager will show everything as ok, even though the sd card reader drivers are not installed.

Why don't you try a different SD card? D'oh.

I think the above post might be your fixer though. I had to install my SD card drivers after I clean formatted my laptop; thought W7 would detect and install drivers automatically but it didnt, so I had to do it myself.

Try RecoverFab, I'm sending my SD card in today. Turns out maybe my problem is the controller chip. Check it out!
