    Hey

I was wondering if I downloaded stuff of my desktop and put it on this SD-HC card would it be compatible.

Want to put movie files, ect on this card and find it so much better than a flash drive at a fraction of the size.

Not to sure of the transfer rates though.

End question, how do I know if my XPS 1530 and acer desktop can support this.

    Thanks.

It depends on what "stuff" you are talking about. If you mean your word documents/pictures/music then sure...but you cant install programs on it and expect them to work on the other computer.

As long as both computers have the correct card reader, then you are good to go.

    Hey

The only thing that will go on the card is movies and maybe music, not sure if this card will handle this. (avi files)

Also is there a way of telling if my reader built into my computer and dell latop are HD-SC compatible without buying one and returning it.

    Thanks.

Im not sure if this is what you are asking, but i have an 8gb HC-SD card in my M1530 and i can store what ever i want on it as long as it fits. I have even installed Oblivion onto it and it works fine.

    Hey

Thanks for that, Thats what I wanted to know.

But is there a way of telling if sd-hc is compatible, as I was told it is not the same as a normal sd card.

'Traditionally' yes, but many a modern app. (atleast the free/open source ones) also offer portable equivalents that could.

I've got a good 50 softwares for all kinds of productivity/utility and entertainment purposes that run directly from my 8GB thumb drive that I carry with my car/house keys. Think of it as the digital equivalent to the Swiss army knife. :)

Surely you have a thumb drive lying around that would make this data transfer business less of a chore. I think you stand a greater chance of your old desktop being USB 2.0 compatible than SD-HC.

If you then wanted to keep the files semi-permanently on your SD-HC card you could just move them from one thumb drive to the card through your new notebook. Job done.

Alternatively you're going to have to wander through the Windows device viewer and research your desktop card readers hardware... that, or just plug the card in and see what happens, if anything. :)

    Hey

The only reason I was going to buy a sd card was becuase it would fit my camera as well.

Didnt see the point of buying a flash drive with only one purpose when the sd card would suit two things.

I might buy one from local shop, and then if it works tell them it doesnt and then buy on line, tesco earns enough money as it is LOL.

People like you make companies take away good return policies that are useful for legitimate purposes at times. If you're going to buy it online since it cheaper than do that!

Since it works in your camera too you won't loose out...

Don't just buy and return to buy elsewhere cheaper :|
