I was wondering if anyone can share any information on the benefits of a Solid State Drive as opposed to a Hard Disk Drive in the m1330, which I plan to buy in the near future (SSD).

Does it give off heat significantly less than that of the normall HDD, or no difference in heat, say when used for an hour?

There is little to no heat associated with a SSD as there are no moving parts. As you can imagine, this results in significanlty less fan use, actually pretty much none for just normal using and surfing.

I think I may have commented on it in one of my earlier threads. Click on my Intro to SSD thread below and then click on the Comparing Thread once that window opens. It compares a M1330 and m1210 and discusses the heat, silence, battery life and whatnot.

An SSD, because there are no moving parts to it, doess not fail after rigourous vibration or movement like an HDD would. And because there are no moving parts, it also runs faster.

SSD does produce less heat and is significantly faster as Gunner said.

I just finished two white papers from a company called SiliconSystems who produce the SSD for enterprise level systems such as the Military and many aerospace functions.

I am surprised it has taken so long to introduce the SSD into the notebook. These are trusted and absolutely necessary for so many different types of systems that we never would have figured. Their reliability is unquestionable.

    Test question...

Most of the population uses an SSD device several times a day. Any clues? I never even thought of this one.

Flash drives have almost the same technology implemented.
