I just finished playing L4D and my recorded temps from HWMonitor were:
Max 81C for CPU
Max 90C for GPU
Should I be getting a notebook cooler?
-
Huh I have the same PC
CPU max 60 may be 70 in games (NFS;Prince)
GPU max 85 (with overclock program); normal max 80
Your results are near to normal!Sadly the GPU of Studio has both high normal/in game temperatures!
By the way my GPU normal temperature is between 48 and 55 C - so it drivers me nut because the FAN goes between OFF -> High (for few second) -> Low Speed -> again OFF IMO due GPU temperature -
The entire core 2 duo range has a max specified temp of 100*c, so you're ok there, though 81 seems rather hot to me considering it's a 35w chip, it should be very easy for it to stay cool.
I can't find any data on the max temp for the GPU, but ATI does say that it has onboard throttling and such, so it should be able to simply de-clock itself if it starts to overheat. Many GPUs are good to around 100*c as well.
It might be interesting to prop the back of the laptop up and repeat the test and see what you get.
EDIT:
100*c is the max temp for the entire core lineup, including the core duo, core 2 duo, and the pentium dual core. -
Yeah as soon as I tab out of L4D or stop playing it cools back down really fast. I'm just worried about the temps because I know 80C for the CPU and 90 for the GPU is pretty high =/

how did you overclock the studio 15 it seems locked to me and also what are your settings. Please tell me I need that extra boost in games. -
Oh it was some Ati OverClock program I just increase to 550/550!
Normal for your video card Ati radeon HD 3450 is 500/500!
But IT is NOT GIVE YOU ENOUGH EXTRA BOOST!
IF YOU WANNA PLAY GAMES GO FOR XPS WITH GEFORCE! -
I have the studio 15. Please post a guide on how you did it it will be indeedly apreciated. How much fps boost did you think u gained and did u increase the voltage.
-
bigdarkman,
what graphic drivers and catalyst were you using and what ati tools program which version.
Please me and some other people need help with overclocking the gpu. It runs pretty cool. -
What you understand "cool"?
My standard video cart temp is 48-55 C - normal work!
In games - 60 to 80 C!Sometimes over 80+ c
90 C is danger temperature for your video card!
It is impossible to overclock this video card (ATI DELL HD 500/500 3450), because once you overclock it a little just a little - GPU will hit 90 C and your video card will be in Danger zone!
Plus this Dell edition video card is DOWNCLOCKED - 500/500; Standard Mobility video card is 500/700 or 700/500 I'm not 100 % sure!
But overall Studio 153x is not gaming machine, and it is not suppose to be able to play new games on High!I still play some new games on medium and high.
So I'm very happy with my Studio!
I suggest you to NOT play with your luck, because you can harm your notebook! -
OH thanks man those ***** at dell jipped us and underclocked it. The memory speed was suppose to be 700 and that would have indeed added better peformance.
Safe CPU & GPU temps for S1535?
