    Hello friends,

As you already know, the 1520 gets shipped with a 90w adapter if you get it with dedicated graphics and 65W adapter if you get the 1520 with integrated graphics.

My question is, is it safe to use a 65W adapter on a 1520 with the 8600m GT? Or will underpowering it damage it?

    Thanks! :)

Dell will not allow an adapter to damage the computer. If it works, it will likely only either charge the battery (if the system is off) or only power the system (and not charge the battery).

Well, I can say this: I tried using a 65W adaptor on my D830. Everything worked fine save that the machine limited my T7300 to... less than top speed. On the other hand, using the 90W adaptor on a 65W machine had no problems whatsoever.

And it may not charge the battery while running the laptop. Otherwise, it should be fine.

also i heard underpowering things can sometimes have consequence on the battery...its just the 65W adapter is smaller and less bulky which is why i was thinking of getting it

Maybe you should try the "travel adapter". I haven't got one myself, but from what I've read (on the Dell site) it's compatible with 65W and 90W machines and it should be pretty slim and light, being a "travel adapter" and all.

If you worry that may damage the battery, just remove the battery. I did hear a couple cases of battery damage by power adapter though.
