The lcd inverter died on a Dell 6000 (15.4 widescreen). I replaced it with an inverter from a Dell D600 (14 screen). The lcd works fine now. Is there any danger of damaging electronics with this mismatch of inverters.

If the inverter is the same physically, and has the same part number, then it should be fine. However, if they are slightly different then it may pose problems later on, or sooner. If the inverter gets hotter than before, then it may be a fire risk.

Like Zero said, if the part number is different and what not, you can run into a voltage problem. That problem can very well lead to a fire risk.
