intel news for 01/31/2011
Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the IntelĀ® 6 Series, and has implemented a silicon fix. The Second Generation Core i7 quad core based systems have this design issue. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April. -
Your title is misleading, it has nothing to do with the CPUs. The CPUs are just fine, and aren't being recalled. It's just the chipsets, specifically ports 2-5 on the SATA controller. Some laptop models, ones with only 2 SATA channels (HDD + ODD w/o eSATA, or HDD + eSATA w/o ODD), won't even be affected by this.

Any more news on this guys? When are the new chipsets coming for Dell?
