    I'm Canadian
I ordered a Vostro from dell.com to be delivered to my friend's house in Florida
I'm using my AMEX card and so far no problems with my billing address being Canadian <<< note, dell.com web site does not accept a canadian billing address for the credit card section. For this, I just entered my friends Florida address.
My order is in production stage - boxing stage now

Now that Canadian $ is at par, it's interesting to do a price comparison and realize how much Canadians are getting ripped off

I went on dell.ca and custom built the exact same system.
The only thing I couldn't get on dell.ca was 1yr NBD (they don't have that choice). Otherwise, I was able to build the exact same system

    My config
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Genuine Windows® XP Professional
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability, w/ Roxio Creator
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel Web Camera
    No Pre-installed Productivity Software
Dell Exclusive MediaDirect™ Instant Play Software Application
    No Pre-installed Anti-Virus/Security Software
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Year Limited Hardware Warranty with Next Business Day On-Site Service
    No Onsite System Setup
No Dell Automated PC Tune Up or NW Assistant Installed
    Dell Network Assistant
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate), WinXP
Purchase is not intended for resale.
    Intel Centrino Core Duo Processor

    FINAL PRICE
    ---------------------US----------CDN
    ---------------------$1007------$1919
    Florida tax-------------$70.47----------
    QC pst + gst tax-----------------$287
    TOTAL---------------$1077.47---$2206

    I'm saving $1,129

I'll be in Florida for 2 weeks, flying back through Toronto.
There is no duty on laptops, so I'll only pay tax
However, I'll get $750 tax free allowance (after 1 wk out)
So I expect to pay only 6% GST on the difference between 1077 and 750.....ie. I'll only pay $20 tax

Interesting, on Dell.ca, to go from 2gb of ram to 3gb of ram is a $600 upgrade, while that upgarde is only $90 on dell.com

    Sweet deal.

I agree Canadians are being ripped off now that the Canadian dollar is higher than the American dollar. It really doesn't make sense to me since they are forecasting that the Canadian dollar will remain above the US dollar for a while. I'm hoping notebook prices in Canada will go down a bit in the next few weeks.

Exactly!!! I'm tempted to order another laptop from somewhere (not dell) and have it shipped to my grandparent's place in Oakland. Screw dell trying to make big bucks out of canadians.

    UPDATE on my great deal

    Final on my dell order
    Order placed Sept 29
Laptop delivered Oct 5th via DHL to Tampa
(Only 1 week total from order to receive)

    Final price $1077.47 USD
Came through on my Canadian Amex as $1104. CDN

Laptop checks out perfectly except for 1 minor mechanical defect
The front left corner of the base is slightly raised off of a flat surface, so if you press down on that corner, you get a little wobble.
The gap under the left front rubber foot is about 8 sheets of paper thick.

A Dell technician stopped by my hotel to look at it (great Next Business Day service and worth the modest price (abt $39)
He brought a whole new base kit with him,,,,but I decided that it would be easier to just use a flat steel file and remove a bit of thickness off of the right front rubber foot. It's perfect now after that very minor adjustment.

Next step it to get the computer through the Canadian border at Toronto, where I'll expect to pay 6% GST tax on the difference between $1104 and my $750 allowanc.
