i tried to save something in my C drive and got a message that said "You dont have permission to save in this location. contact the administrator to obtaine permisson."
what can i do to fix this

Are you using a limited account? That would explain why you can't save anything. If you want to change to a Computer administrative account, then you have to get access to another Computer administratve account, and change the one your currently having problems to a computer administrator.

That sounds like Vista at work. You need to have Admininstator powers (even if you thought you had these powers already) to either write to C:\ (or whatever is the drive that Vista is installed on) or delete anything there. It's a nuisance for programs written to use a file stored in C:\ (so selected because it is one location which the programmer could be fairly certain would exist). There is no similar problem if you want to copy a folder to C:\.
In my case, if I try to copy something to C:\ then Vista will prompt for me to confirm that I want to do it as Administrator.
