    Say I buy an M1530 and it dies...

    let's say the GPU dies on me. Let's say I have a 4 year warranty + 4 year accidental warranty. Now, DELL would replace my laptop, correct?

    And if replaced with a similar laptop, what happens if the second laptop were to die later on (before the warranty expires)? Does the 4 year warranty end upon first incident, or does it last all 4 years covering the laptop?


    How about accidental damage? What if I break it, get it replaced, but then break it again somehow. Does the accidental still last the full 4 years, or does it die once I get 1 replacement/fix?

    They will keep replacing it for 4 years wether its the same system, or a newer model. They might not have stock of the same system in 3 years time so they might upgrade you to a newer notebook.

    Trust me, its a pain dealing with Dell back and forth. You do not want this, you want reliability. Avoid the defective m1530's and go for a montevina notebook

    As for the accidental damage, there might be a limit to how many times you can claim.

    They are not all defective by any means. I have a good number of friends who have the M1530 and have never had an issue with it for a long time with lots of usage. Don't overgeneralize by just reading forums where people go to complain.

    I want to bite on the M1530 deal right now. It's just a $100 more than a Thinkpad T61 I configured, but it comes with LoJack, an 8600M GT, 4GB RAM, and a faster processor.


    What to do...?



    Anyone have an M1530 that hasn't died?

    These things don't just "die", the vast majority of them work perfectly. The people who come here and talk about their defective M1530's are trying to find a solution. And if you have the warranty and your covered, you can ALWAYS find the solution from Dell, even if it takes a few tries and a few hassles.

    I don't think the M1530 has any chronic issues really. There is the GPU issue, but you're likely to see that on the T61 if it has the nvidia card.

    Generally you'll see more people with problems on forums as a percentage than there actually are. Most people aren't going to read up on their laptop or join a forum for it if it is completely problem free.

    I'm here because I couldn't install XP on my inspiron 1520. Someone else is here becuase their hard drive failed, etc, etc, etc,

    My M1530 works flawlessly besides for the headphone jack static =(. But that will be fixed if you use dedicated speakers instead of headphones. Besides people only come to the forum and talk about the bad if they have a problem. You don't need to post a topic if you don't have any issues with it.

    The cons of replacements is that the replaced model will be new or used (read the warranty). But if you have the 4year coverage then you can have it replaced all you want within that period.. unlimited. Good luck (fingers crossed)

    so basically if a new one comes out and they stop producing the xps m1530, as long as it hasnt been 4 years u can like purposely drop it and break it and get the new one? :D

    na, dell would probably have enough parts for the m1530 to last 4 years, unless everyone tries to repalce their broken GPU

    Dell says otherwise. Sounds like you need to catch up on the official news.

    Im not speculating. What i said are official facts:

    1) Nvidia announced defective GPU which costs up to $200,000,000 to fix

    2) Dell gives the official news saying their gpu's are affected. Thus releasing the new BIOS and covering warranty service for failures.

    There are factors to why your friends systems are still alive. Heat and heat cycling are the main factor to a pre-mature failure.

    Mine has a defective core too, yet its been alive for over 6 months and its OC'd

    This is not a problem that happens quickly and suddenly. It may take several years to show up. So your friends personal experience doesn't account for anything. I have several friends with XPSs and both my laptops use these cards, and we have no had any issues, but it's safe to assume the card is still defective, just the problem has not sprung up yet.

    Ya that's definitely what I would do. I mean once its to the point of being non replaceable they have to give u a new M1530, but if they no longer have these then you would most likely get their new model.
