Scratches and dents...? Why would they come with defects like that?
-
its from the outlet and I want to know if anyone has ordered a good one that was marked scratch and dent
-
I have a Scratch & Dent from Dell.
It's a Dell Vostro 1500, great working condition.
The only Scratch & Dent I see on the notebook is a little bit of scratch near the bottom of the Express card slot (just a smudge, express card slot works). -
-
-
from what i know, people cant even find any scratches on their laptops when they are bought like this. it wont come all banged up.
-
you can still return a scratch and dent one to the outlet without a restocking fee right?

Was ordering a Thinkpad T61p with a price tag of $1300.
Glad I cancel the Thinkpad to save around $600 (even though the specs on the Thinkpad were awesome, especially the Quadro FX 570M GPU).
Regular warranty still applies on the Refurbished Dells.
Mine comes with a 1 yr warranty.
Keep an eye out and a good deal will come your way. -
Wow where did you get that amazing deal for the T61p.
-
That's with a C2D 2.2MHZ T7500, 1GB RAM, DL DVD-RW, WSXGA+, 80GB HDD, 9 cell battery
Hehe, yeah...Looking at the specs and what can be done with aftermarket RAM, I am still not sure if I made the correct choice going with the Vostro 1500
The Quadro FX 570M (8600M GT DDR3)....damn... -
I bought my Inspiron 1520 on 9/12/07 from the scratch and dent.
It had all the upgrades, priced it out new and it would have been $ 1500.
I paid $ 1120.
Can't find anything wrong with it, works great and never gave me any trouble. -
Hello,
This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach group. I wanted to add thing about our outlet store. You have the option to select conditional options such as Certified Refurbish, Previously Ordered New, Scratch & Dent, and Off-Lease. You are also able to select system hardware specs. So, not every system in the Outlet has scratches or dents. It is completely optional, but they are at a better deal.
With these different selections you process a search that will locate a system that is right for you and meets your budget.
Regards,
Richard B

Hi Richard,
What is the web link to the scratch and dent site?
Thanks,
Walter -
I regret to say that I am unable to provide you a direct link to the Dell Outlet store as I am only here to help people. Dell Online Community Outreach does not promote or sell Dell products; we help people with our products.
Finally, we are guest on this forum, and out of respect we do our best not to direct people away from this site. However, you can easily find our outlet store with the use of a standard Web search portal.
Thank you for you interest in Dell.
Best regards,
Richard B

The cost savings on the Dell Outlet aren't always good compared with purchasing new. It's a mixed bag, but there's a little something for everybody there. One of the big problems with the Outlet is you're kind of confined to configurations of those who ordered before you. So if somebody ordered a Laptop with A, B, C... you can't reconfigure with with A, C, D and E.
Also, be sure and note that the prices vary. Some of the laptops come with pre-configured software, so if somebody previously ordered Microsoft Office, that price is reflected in the refurb/scratcher, so take that into mind when scanning the prices. You can have three laptops with the exact same specs, but different prices. The reason: software.
I just wish my employee discount worked for the Outlet. Heh heh. -

I agree with the above, Richard is a pro.

I ordered a scratch/dent m1210 and it was nearly perfect. To me it was certainly worth buying it over a brand new m1330.
There was a tiny dot of paint on the number 7 and if you look really close a few specs of paint on the battery, but no scratches or dents.

nice one Richard from Dell...
great find faulkton! -
ok i ordered my inspiron 1521 on 10/13 from the outlet, I got my invoice today and it says that I got a: "Module,Liquid Crystal Display 15.4WXGA,True Life,Lg Philips LGP,C/S" screen, thats the best screen right (LG)?
Also one other thing, it says that my system has a Network Draft Wireless N-1505 card, do you guys have any idea as to what the "draft" means? Thanks -
bump..................
-
Wow, this really makes me want to go for the outlet on my next Dell purchase! What is the range of severity on dents? Like Faulkton's M1210, do you just get lucky or can damage be much worse? And if so, is it impossible to find out?
-
the draft in "draft N" means its not officially finished as a standard yet. sorta like a beta stage of a software program. the final N version may have additional speeds/features/extras that your draft n card might not. i would not worry about it though, you have a wireless N card.
also, for future reference, if you have a separate question or topic to ask, start a new thread. you will get it answered better than throwing it on the third page of someone else's topic. -
its my own topic btw nizzy

I recently got a 1720 from the outlet. The "scratch" was just a small nick on the left bottom corner. No big deal as you don't notice it unless you specifally look for it.
-
Ordered a Inspiron 640m for $517.65 + shipping & tax (total $587.96). Hopefully the scratches/dents aren't noticeable.
Inspiron 640m/E1405 Notebook: Intel Core Duo processor T2250 (2MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB)
9 Cell Primary Battery
1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz (1 DIMMs) (Got 2GBs ready to put on)
160 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
14.1 inch WXGA+ Notebook Screen
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability -
I hope you guys are doing your research before hand. Dell's outlet sometimes isn't a good route to go. With coupons, you can SOMETIMES get a brand new laptop cheaper or equal to the used one at Dell's outlet. It all just depends.
-
look in my sig...I don't think you can get a better deal than that!
