I'm not really sure what I should do... I didn't notice it at first (I've had the laptop for about a week and a half) but there is a scratch (actually looks like a burn/melt) on the top right of the screen, and it's nothing I could have done. It kind of looks like when you peel off a sticker and the glue is still there... I just found it because of the way my lamp is shining off of it and I'm wondering if I should make a big deal about it. Some may call me picky, but when you buy a new laptop, you expect it to be "perfect" and when you find a flaw... it's not a great feeling.

You don't see it if you look straight on, but if you look from the side, it looks like this

They should send you a replacement if you call them.

They may send you a replacement, but this one is a tough one to call as it's a case of "well you only just noticed it now, how do we know you didn't do that". I suspect gfjd is right though, that they'd send you a replacement bezel.

Well, the credibility of random posters online is incredibly low, but in my defense, there is nothing I'd want to mess around with up there, let alone with a lighter of some sort :p. CS doesn't open till 9:00, so I'll call then. I'll post a picture from the front, and it'll disappear, but I readjusted my light for some reason, and it was pointing diagonally down and to the left, and right now I'm switching inbetween my desktop and laptop, and in the process of turning, I happened to notice it, but then again, its one of those unprovable things...

Update: So.. I'm not sure what I was expecting (did I mention I'm anal) but 30 minutes later, I find that they're sending a new laptop in next day, and it should come on the 11th (I'm expecting delays even though its "priority) and was expecting to like have to send it in or have someone come over to repair the bezel... Now I'm kind of feeling bad because that means someone else got bumped... right? I might as well take some pictures (after I clean off the fingerprints) while the camera is out..

A new laptop? For a scratched bezel??? Eh, really? That does not sound right.

I guess though if you haven't got the in home service, and it's within x number of days then it's probably the easiest thing for them to do.

Wow, they sent you a $600 computer instead of a $6 plastic display bezel? Good deal. :p

the techs would have had to guide him through a removal and installation of the bezel. I think this works out better in terms of man-hours.

Not really; what works best is for the computer to be sent back to Dell, them to repair it and send it back. They knew that wouldn't work for the customer though, because this machine is less than x days old.

They could have got an engineer to come out with the bezel, but that costs Dell money; and judging from the resolution given to the op, it costs them more money than they stand to lose by selling the existing machine in their outlet.

Honestly, if it were me, I would prefer that they simply send the bezel to me; I would replace it myself. Saves everyone money and time.

short of sending me a brand new laptop, that's probably what i'd prefer too. Sending it back to them is a bit of a gamble - you never know what you'll get back.

Agreed, but they can't force a customer to do the replacement themselves, so unless you offer that to Dell then they have to look at alternatives.

Actually I wouldn't get them to send it to me. I'd get an engineer out, just because what the heck is the point in having the in home service if you are not going to use it ;)

I was also wondering about the underclocks on this laptop, as I'm stuck at 1v and others have gotten down to like .95v. I'll post when I check. I'm planning on doing that shadow copy thing and moving everything over. (I'm assuming it'll work between computers)

I'm also wondering what'll happen if I apply for another copy of windows 7?...

    Underclocks or undervolts?

I managed to undervolt mine to 0.98 on the highest multiplier, and this was confirmed via CPU-Z. However, the very nature of undervolting means that others may have more or less success.

Well, I thought that the problem when undervolting would be getting a bsod, but nothing I put that is under 1v (even on the lowest multiplier) will post. I would feel better eventually doing a bios underclock, but of coarse, it's locked ><.

Is the .98v the stable (going lower gets you bsods)? or is it the lowest that will post? I was actually looking forward to bsods because that means that what I'm doing is actually making a difference :'(

0.975 BSODs after about 2 and a half hours of stress testing, 0.96 BSOD after about 30 seconds of stress testing. I ran 0.98 for 12 hours stress testing and it was fine, and haven't had a problem with it yet.
