I have a 1520 with a SEC3350 screen (1680 x 1050) and I'm unsure about if my screen quality is as good as it could be. I notice a million topics discussing this problem though I'm still confused about a couple issues:
- Does this "grainess" also contribute to the darker look of the images on the screen or is is more of a pixel quality
- Is the darkness due to the "true life coating" and so does going with a screen without this feature reduce this quality or lower resolution
- How long does it take to have a new screen delievered and installed
- Can I ask for a particular brand even though they just insert a new lcd screen and if so is there a particular brand/resolution I should ask for?
Thanks.

I think the question should be if you are happy with it, if not you should call dell.

hey,
So are there problems with your screen? If you can't visually find any problems with the screen, then it should be good. You can tell if the screen is "grainy" when it takes some effort to read letters from the screen.
It usually takes 3-4 days for a replacement laptop to arrive. If you are just looking to replace the LCD, you would have to ship your laptop back to the dell repair center. This usually takes about a week or so.
The laptop LCD panel that you have is from a good company: samsung. I would keep it if there are no problems. I just had my laptop replaced and now I have a AUO screen and it's perfect...no graininess problems, no backlight problems. -
how can you tell what brand of monitor it is?

you go to the control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager, monitors, plug and play monitor, details tab, it should say DISPLAY/_____
AUO-AUO
SEC-samsung
LLC (or something like that)- LG philips -
Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor > Details > Hardware ids

First off, ask yourself if there's really an issue with the screen. Could it be that you've read about all the trouble people have been having with various makes and models of LCD screens and are simply tricking yourself into seeing a problem? If you pick anything apart close enough, all you'll see are problems.
I only say this because I really do think the screen thing has become an epidemic of sorts. Once again, I'm not doubting that there are horrible screens out there, but I'd be willing to bet that some of the people complaining about grainy screens are simply seeing something that isn't there. So many are focusing so intently on the screen issue - even before their notebooks are even ordered - that their bound to be unhappy with them when they actually arrive.
The issue with the screen are entirely subjective - one person's grainy monster might look excellent to another. Unlike the loose batteries or uneven rubber feet, a problem with a grainy screen can't be measured in any meaningful way.
I got caught up in all the "grainy screen" fuss myself. For the first few days, I really though my SEC WXGA+ screen was exhibiting some sort of "grainy" defect. I really think it was mostly in my head.
Now, my 1400's loose battery and uneven rubber feet are other issues entirely.
