On a few occasions, the screen on my Inspiron 6400 will just go dark. Not off, or black, but dark. Basically, everything does turn black, but the backlight is still on. Nothing can bring it back except holding the power button for a manual shut down.
Any ideas as to why this occurs, or how to fix it?
It has occured twice today while opening a video file in Windows Media Player from an external harddrive (Western Digital 80 GB).

ATI x1400
Intel C2D 2.16
1 GB RAM
60 GB Harddive

Under some conditions like:
- pluging the AC-Adapter
- activation of the power save modus (switching of the display)
the system sometimes (not always on my computer) will hang up.
