I recently purchased an Inspiron 8600 (1.8ghz, 512RAM, 80gb HD, 128mg ATI Video) and while I am so far very happy with it, I have a question about screen settings.
It shipped with the screen settings at the "Highest" setting (I am at work now so I don't recall what it is) and while everything looks fine, for certain things (like running Citrix and checking my Outlook firm email), the font on the screen is so tiny it is tough to read. While I changed some settings to increase the Font size the changes only seem to apply to running aps such as Explorer etc., but does not increase the font size of certain web pages, etc.
I then tried to lower the screen resolution but got some message that it is not the optimal setting and things will look fuzzy, which they do.
    Any recommendations or suggestions?

Do you have the sxga or uxga screen? I have the sxga and have my screen resolution set @ 1680 x 1050 and DPI set @ 96. I typically need to increase the text size when reading. The xga is better for all purchase tasks. The sxga affords me better dvd, gaming, etc. viewing. I've read on the dell forum that people are not too pleased with the uxga option. Text tends to lean on the microscopic side.

Right click the desktop and hit properties. Go to the Apperance Tab. Hit Advance. Under the item drop box you can change the text size for icons, title bar, etc.

Thanx. I will try this when I get home but I think I may have already done that which I believe had the effect of enlarging the size of the icons on the Task bar, etc. but had no impact on, for example. the size of the font when you type in a URL into Explorer (CTRL-O) or other web based apps.

I've been playing with the settings on my screen for the 2 weeks that I've had and I've finally set it at 1680 x 1050
and the DPI @ 150. The text size and resolution are great it's just that graphics tend to by fuzzy. Any suggestions?
