Hey guys, I have two laptops.. a dell XPS M1530 and a dell studio 1535. The screen on the XPS is not doing so good, it works intermittently, but a lot of times when it works it is dim and hard to see so I have been using a separate monitor for a while in order to use my laptop. The studio laptop has some cosmetic issues and is not used anymore, but the screen is still good. So I was thinking of taking the screen from the studio and replacing the screen on my XPS but I'm hesitant to open the XPS not knowing if the other screen will work. I appreciate any input or advice you could offer me.

Well I can tell you they are both CCFL type displays, but with out knowing the part numbers of the displays can't help much more.

That would mean removing the display bezels and looking on the back side of the display.

As far as you problem with the XPS it does sound like your video cable is the problem, it could also be the inverter, but opening up the front bezels and checking the connections would be a good start.

just remember to remove all power before playing with the cable assembly.

    Cheers

The M1530 has both CCFL and LED screen options... I think the 1535 only has CCFL screens, but I'm not sure. Dell CCFL panels of the same size and generation are generally compatible with each other, so if both your M1530 and 1535 have CCFL screens, the swap should work.

As mentioned, the problem with your M1530 might not necessarily be a screen issue, though.
