Hi everyone, thanks for helping me out with my problem.

Background: backlight was going out (red screen), then the screen went out completely, but would sometimes still work if I turned the screen off and on (magnetic switch thing).
I then bought a new backlight lamp off ebay, just soldered it in now, and for some reason it is stuck on 100% brightness now.
I have tried changing it in the bios, and the fn+up/down, none of that works.
The ATI CCC sort of works, I can change the brightness setting there, but that's not really what I am looking for.

I am running windows server 2008 on a dell inspiron 6000 with an ATI x300.
I tried a new inverter, same thing.

Maybe I somehow damaged the lcd control board?

    Thanks!

I had this happen. I bought a new screen for my 6000 and couldn't change the brightness. I think its a bad lamp or the thing that controls the brightness.

Thanks for the reply. Hmm, well at least I can still use my laptop.

I ran the diagnostics mode on it and got error 1000-0322 "Error accessing LCD inverter". Searched google, followed the steps, and since changing the cable out didn't work, the only way to fix it is to replace the lcd screen. Argh, I should have been more careful when I was taking it apart.

Battery life is now horrible with only 2.5 hours on power save mode. Before if I lowered the backlight I could get around 4.5-5 hours.

At least I got to see how a lcd works --> super bright hot lamp + glass + sheets of plastic + lcd layer

Did you try replacing the inverter?

yup, and the video cable. I must have accidentally damaged the board on the lcd when I was taking it apart. I should have listened to the warning: don't touch the white tape sign.

No my friend, this is an Inverter problem only! it doesn't match the screen or the laptop. please make sure you are using original inverter for your laptop model not generic from china.
    Good Luck
