Hi, I ordered a 1500 yesterday and the particular build on discount only came with trueLife displays. I was hoping to choose a non-TrueLife display because i wanted less glare, but the sales rep. did not allow it. Now I am faced with this dilemma: call a Dell CSR and try to negotiate a "downgrade" to a non-TrueLife display or should i keep the TrueLife display and buy an anti-glare screen cover that i could use when i notice there is glare?

If anyone suggests getting the anti-glare cover, would you know where to find them for a modest price?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Since yours hasn't gone into building, it's in pre-production right? I'd get it changed if it bothers you a lot.

Never heard of a CSR saying you can't have a non-true life display. They're available with the online ordering tool. Maybe re-order online then call CSR and haggle for the discount. Or play random CSR and haggle for the True-Life. I've not heard complaints about truelife LCD's, but the ones with matte finish there are complaints of graininess.

Really... I don't mind spending like $20 on an anti-glare screen cover if I can avoid graininess and get the option to have nice color and contrast when I want and anti-glare for other times, but if both have no graininess then I would take the Matte. Ok. since now I am at a split decision, i'll go by what people suggest, so far its 1 for switching to matte and one for keeping truelife.

  I called a CSR and she said there is NO WAY I can change something in my order even if it has not even gone into preproduction yet. AM I missing something or have I called the wrong person?

TrueLife screens definitely can have issues, not sure why anyone would say that they don't. I just received my 1500 with a WXGA+ glossy screen, and it's grainy as hell. Will be calling for a replacement either tonight or Monday.

The discount is because they have lots of True Life displays in inventory, and very few matte screens. Therefore they're marketing this lower price on a glossy screen display. You have to either pay more to get the matte screen (and be prepared for a longer wait) or take the better price and likely get the notebook sooner. There's some major LCD shortages going on in the industry right now, and apparently matte screens in particular.
