When i close the lid on my 1501 and after returning to reopen it, the screen will begin to flash green continuisouly while trying to wake back up, So i have to restart it everytime. This is the only problem that i have noticed.
    Thanks guys

The screen flashes? Not the indicators? How is standby set up on your computer? Does it resume from standby when you open the lid? Sounds like a wiring/hardware issue to me. I would strongly suggest giving the technical support department a call.

HinesMike I just PMed you about this, but I was wondering if you were able to resolve the issue? I am having the exact same problem, although it only started occurring after I reinstalled windows (vista). Did you by any chance reinstall windows as well?

Okay so I think I figured out the problem. I saw from another post of yours that you reformatted your computer. I think for whatever reason the driver reinstallation disk they sent with the computer does not include the most up-to-date driver for the display adapter.

Solution: Update driver for display adapter

    1. Go to device manager (from control panel)
    2. Click on display adapters and then again on the adapter that is listed (mine was RADEON XPRESS 200M Series)
    3. Click on the driver tab
    4. Click the Update Driver button

Once I did that, it updated the driver and now I'm able to return from hibernate just fine. Hooray for not having to spend hours on the phone with Dell! :)

edit: Looks like the reason the driver wasn't on the CD is that they sent me the wrong video card! D:

I am a customer advocate here at Dell headquarters in Texas. I found this post and wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help out.

I would also recommend the driver update. You can get the latest drivers from the Dell support website (support.dell.com). If you have any questions about which driver(s) are for your computer just let me know and I can look it up for you.

LizTKPK: The resource CD that shipped with the computer should have all the drivers for the model of computer you have, and not just the ones on your order. If you tell it to list all drivers you should be able to find the correct one (although I would recommend getting them from the website as they are usually going to be newer).

If either of you have any other questions about your Dell notebooks I will be happy to provide any help I can.

    Hi Guys.

I don't know how many more people are having this problem, but I've encountered it a few times as a technician.

I did find a solution that worked a treat every time:

Here's another little annoying problem that I've encountered, where there doesn't seem to be a solution easily available on the Internet.

I've seen it on the Dell Inspiron 1501. It happens either randomly or when you open/close the laptop lid, and what happens is a green mesh colour that sometimes flickers completely takes over the screen.

    My solution?

Update the (Radeon) driver whilst connected to the Internet. To do that:

Go into Device Manager, select your graphics card. Goto its properties and Update Driver.

Select the "Search Windows Update.....etc" (the default, top option and proceed.

Windows will then search for the drivers, find it and automatically install the patched driver.

(If you don't get the automatic driver search via Windows Update option, then you probably have more serious issues, like not having Service Pack 2 installed.)

    Hope it helps someone !
