    I just bought E1705/Vista home premium/WUXGA/7900GS.

    When I maximize some windows,
    the screen flickers -
it seems that some portion of the right side is swapped to the left side and this repeats a few times quickly,
and then the window gets maximized.
    It is very annoying.

I restored the system to the original state, but the problem persists.

I am wondering if anybody has a similar problem.

    No, not yet.
I received it on Friday evening, and I was pretty busy today.
I did some search, and found similar problems for Vista upgrade, but no solution.
It could be a driver problem, but I wonder why a new laptop has one.

    I have this similar problem.

I noticed it happening when the laptop is not on the powersupply unit. Perhaps of the nVidia or power management poor drivers?

I upgraded to Vista and it never happened on XP...

Dell already wasted my time on this.

    They have no clue.

If only on battery you may be on to something. I would cruse the boards to see if like users are having the same problems.

Yeah, but the beauty of dealing with Dell is that they can replace the system. Since eternity just bought this e1705, the first place to go is Dell and get technical assistance.

Had a similar problem with a new (48hours old) 9400 + 7900GS. Thing got worst after a few hours and the Video card died.

Alright, I installed the beta forceware days ago and my flickers seems to be gone. I haven't noticed a single since.

Just thought to add to this. I saw this happen when I was playing C&C 3 on my laptop. I am running XP with a GF7900GS. It only happens on that game and usually while loading the map or bring up the results from the scenario. It also may happen on the senario selection screen. Never happens in-game or during video playback.

I had this problem similar in XP with BF2. I think I resolved the issue by setting the nVidia Drivers of mobility options to maximum power level or something like that (control panel\nvidia control panel)

    This is a follow-up.

I just got a replacement system.

As a first thing, I checked the problem, and it is still there.

    Windows don't get maximized smoothly.
There are glitches - quick and repeated mixing of screen content before windows are maximized.

    This happens only at 1920x1200.

Since I have two systems with it now,
I suspect maybe every e1705/Vista/7900gs/WUXGA has the same problem,
    but people don't care.

    Or I'm just so unlucky?

    Thank you, Jonzy.

    I will try it.

But, I have heard that some feature will not work properly if it is not an oem driver.

FWIW, I just had this happen this morning on an HP Vista Premium desktop which I have installed an Nvidia 7600 on. I've had the system for over a month and this is the first time I've seen it. The only changes made to the system are Windows Update....hmmm...

It work fine for my needs. And it fixed some of my problems such as the flickering. You can try it and uninstall if you don't like. Don't forget to apply the modified inf drivers in order to be able to install it on you laptop.

Flickering on your E1705 while maximizing or minimizing a window can be fixed by going to Appearance and disabling "Use Animation while Maximizing or Minimizing Windows".

Dell has been alerted to this problem, but nothing has happened yet.

Its the drivers. I had the same issue with Dell's excuse for a driver. Since nVidia still hasn't churned out a Go driver for vista, the only way I was able to eliminate the flicker was to stay with the default Microsoft driver (yuck).

As for the laptop2go driver - I tried em and didnt have any luck. Oh well... will just wait for Dell or nVidia to come around... next year? lol
