    I have a dell studio 15 i7 and 5470 video card.
I have had it for 5 months, with only a few small glitches (nothing to do with the screen)

I left my Laptop for half an hour with nothing running and came back to a black screen, with the laptop clearly running (could hear the fan, power light was on etc.) So i forced a shutdown and the dell logo came up, before the picture started to fade from the top left, before switching black completely. If i close and open the lid a few times the picture will pop up momentarily before disappearing.
I have attached the laptop to my tele via a HDMI and have a perfect picture.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is, and if i can et it fixed without sending it to dell?

i don't know if you can fix it without replacing parts.

i wonder if the backlighting is dying. see if you can see any image at all (will pretty hard to see without the lighting). or maybe its a bad inverter. either way, it's probably a hardware problem that needs to be replaced.

anyways, you should still have warranty on that laptop right? usually they send a technician to your house to replace the monitor, so you might not have to send it away.
