I updated my dell 5150 to A33 from A2x and since then my screen stays lit when i close the laptop. its set to "do nothing" when i close the lid in my power settings like always, this happened when i updated the bios
(i did also update the p4 drivers, and chipset drivers from the dell website too)
i hate having it stay on, any help?

p.s. i did try switching it to hibernate when closing the lid in my power settings, and that worked so i know the system knows my lid is shut.

Um, setting the option to do nothing, means it will do nothing when you close the lid. Try setting it to standby.

ive always used the "do nothing" setting, and it just shut off the screen. standby would shut off my instant messenger, and DLs, but thanks for trying to help

I suppose you could power off the screen manually or switch it to external before closing.

    Revive!

I'm having the exact same problem with my I9300 - When I first purchased it I could close the lid and the screen would go blank but everything else would function normally. When I updated the bios i lost this feature, now when I close the lid the screen remains on and waits for the screensaver as if it had never been closed. I've tried standby, but it doesn't allow me to recieve messages or e-mail alerts while i'm asleep, or in another room.

Does anybody know of a fix, or an alternative method?

    Thanks.

Take a somewhat strong magnet and hold it under the right mouse button, (the area between the mouse button, and the media controls)

Hold it there, and wait a bit. If the screen doesn't turn off, there is a issue

If so, call dell, and they will send a replacement out.

Try Quickset as well, to see if it is on the right setting on.
