I updated my video drivers the other day to fix another problem and now when I close the lid of my E1705, the screen stays on...its very annoying when I'm trying to sleep and I need it to be active so I can hear the IM client go off....

where did you get your drivers from? You need to use the video card drivers from Dell for nVidia. For some reason, the lid will stay on if you use a 3rd party driver.

Yes, you'll need to use the drivers from support.dell.com. If you use these, the LCD should shut off when you close the lid - don't ask me why this happens, but it just does.
