    Hi, just bought my first laptop(Dell Studio 17) a few days ago and kinda experiencing a problem. Whenever I shut the notebook but leave the system on, come back 10 minutes later and reopen it the screen stays black. Although other times the screen opens up like normal. Just wondering if there is any way to fix this without sending it in for repair.

    Thanks =)

    Have you checked your hybernation and power saving settings?

    These can be set to several different things.

    Under control panel->system and maintenance->power options

    You will see several settings. changing these allows you to set if the screen goes off after a few minutes of idle time and then if the machine goes into full sleep mode after a further few minutes/hours. The machine will tend to wake almost instantly from hybernation mode but full sleep mode can require several minutes depending on what you were doing when the machine went to sleep i.e how many apps you had open, how peocessor and memory intensive those apps were etc. etc.
