I have a 1720 and it won't go full brightness on battery. In mobility center it shows that the screen is at max brightness, and I can make it dimmer/brighter using fn+up/down arrow, but the maximum brightness just isn't the real maximum brightness. I know this because as soon as I plug in the battery, the screen brightness roughly doubles. How do I fix this issue?

All or at least all laptops that I have see dim their screens when on battery power. So far I haven't found a way to take the screen to max brightness on battery.

    So don't worry its normal.

Did you check the power settings in your Bios?

I have mine set to reduce max brightness on battery, however, I can override it manually with the Fn+ up arrow key or in the Control Panel.

Start up your laptop and Keep pressing "F2" to go into the bios,

On dell's, you will find a menu pane on the left of your screen,

goto the battery section or LCD brightness and check the setting from there.

ive had this problem on an inspiron 630m

The BIOS is the initial brightness when the laptop starts then Vista's power setting sets in. Can't help on how to activate the key combo.
