Ok so i'm still loving my m1210. altough yesterday i noticed a rattle, i took of the battery rotated the laptop and a screw fell out.

I don't know exactly where it is from. It is only a little screw, about have the length of the screws used to hold the keyboard down.

I have had a look under the keyboard , and inside the wireless card slots...

does anyone know where a smaller screw like this is used, and also is it easy to take the bottom casing off?

The size of the screw leads me to believe it wasnt holding anyhing critically in place, i have no rattle, and everything seems solid. I'm not really concerned, i would however like to put it back of course, plus gain some experience with the insides of a notebook. does anyone know where a smaller length screw is used in the m1210?

    can anyone assist me?

    cheers

A good place to start looking is in the Dell service manuals on their website. They have step by step guide about how to take your notebook apart as well as where the screws are. Perhaps that will help you find out where it was from. Good luck!

Thanks for that, well the only reference i can see to a smaller screw, 3mm, is for the modem....but i have to take the screen and off too get to it apparently...

Lol, didnt really want to go that far, will just see if anything becomes loose then call warranty.

Well, i followed all the directions on the website and took the lappy completley appart, found no missing screws....maybe they put an extra one in a place that wasn't supposed to have a screw...

the instructions failed to mention to disconnect the bluetooth to take off the palm rest though, well at least i think it was the blue tooth.

anyway easy to take appart and back together.

I realised mine fell off too a couple of months ago.. and it came from the hard disc section. In fact I lost one of the screw as I didnt realise it when it fell of the first time.. only when the second fell off did I check to find where it came from. Now i have one missing screw and it is annoying.

    Hi Craime

was it one of the 4 that screws into the bottom casing to secure the HDD?
I have a look and they are the same size screw that came off mine, but i have all 4. However im pretty sure mine came from the inside as the screw only came out when i took the battery out.

Or are there screws inside the internal caddy area? I really can't be botehred taking it apart again though lol..

Do you have a Bluetooth module ? Even if you don't have one, there is a small bracket placed there held by a very tiny screw. It is right underneath the battery.

Over time about 3 of the screws on the bottom of my chassis and one of the screws for the Harddrive cradle has fallen out on my 6000. I can only wonder what had fallen loose inside. Apparently screws just don't stay in Dells well. Do you hear anything that sounds loose inside? Perhaps if nothing seems broken its not work the effort to try and fixing it.
