Can anyone confirm if Inspiron 1420 has those features or not? I have been reading some conflicting information and not sure what to believe.

    Thanks for your reply.

I don't mean to be rude; but can I ask the source of your information?

He's the owner of this site, and gets pre-production models of almost every laptop that Dell makes, along with getting product briefings from Dell, Inc.

I don't believe this so called "Andrew" I think he's making it all up :p

But on a much much more serious note, I think the vostro and inspiron are exactly the same exempt the colors

Well I see the words "strike zone" on the bottom of my 1420. I can also see very clearly that the keyboard is sealed.

No. The inspirons don't have them. It's not mentioned anywhere in the dell web site. Only the vostros have them standard.

My inspiron E1705 also has a strike zone at the bottom of the laptop, pretty much directly under the harddrive slot. As far as I can tell it's just a big rubber foot thing. Maybe it helps protect the hard drive from shock and impact occasionally, but I doubt it.

Ok, this review specifically mentions the keyboard.

I have attempted to take a picture, mind you all you can really "see" is the silver sheet behind the keys.

Because...it's a big selling point for business to have the protective features. Not so much for the home/casual buyer. And do you really think Dell would spend the extra money to build two very same laptops but have this costly feature not in both? Both lines are very competitively priced in the market and against each other, it costs less to spec both the same then to make then different......

That's pretty nice that they have the business-laptop durability features.

Dell says that the magnesium alloy chasis in the notebooks is lighter than plastic. But why didn't they reduce the weights of the new notebooks. 6.4 lbs. for a 15.4" notebook is certainly in the heavier side (when compared to sony Vaio FZ at 5.75 lbs.)

I was very interested in this thread as I have a Inspiron 1720 on order. I just got off the phone with Dell and confirmed that all inspirons have the sealed keyboard and the strikezone features. I am surprised they do not show this on their site as it almost caused me to cancel the 1720 and order a Vosto.
That is till ai found out they are the same damn machine.

Yep, my 1520 clearly has a Strike Zone label at the bottom. I don't see the point of the whole Vostro vs Inspiron debate. They're the same laptops.

Interesting, does this apply to Inspiron 1501 as well?
