The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

I hate to post this as a thread but I can't figure out how to search this Dell forum. Is there a way?

I believe search has been temporarily disabled for all junior (<700 posts) members, due to massive server loads and search index issues. It should be up soon though :) Otherwise you just goto the Dell forum or any other forum for that matter, and there's the "Search this forum" button/link at the top-right corner of the board.

I guess since search is disabled for junior members temporarily, it does not appear to you.

Interesting, now people can't tell the noobs to search instead of answering because they can't!

Dude, NBR is a free site... they have some problems and they'll resolve it... not much we can do... I find it a wise decision to keep search running for seniors and mods, so as to keep the forums running. :) Remember that it's only very temporary. :)

I tend to use google anyway since it does not affect performance on NBR and you don't have to wait so may seconds in between searches...

Perhaps they can change the search button function to use the google search engine.

Even when the search function is there we see a substantial amount of posts that could have been answered with a search...

They should look into doing something similar to the Ubuntuforums where they archived the old threads and upgrade vbulletin to the latest release. It's not fun I know, I ran a VB forum but not as large, but it is a necessary evil sometimes.

I totally agree on updating the vBulletin forum software to the latest version build. :) I'm sure it's newer for a reason, ie. bug fixes, improvements, etc. :D

I 'am not a noob to this site its been a while, I just bought a new Dell M1330, and was an active contributor to many forums like this one with regards to notebooks.

When I first became a member of this forum exclusivley on the Asus forum I rememeber being able to search, and it just makes easier to search topics instead of having to make new post. So is it just a tempory issue or do you really have to have X amount of post before you can make a search?

Of course it is more efficient to allow us to search rather than just post. But screw us.

Have you not used google before? If not try www.google.com and add site:notebookreview.com to your search string.

I'm sure there's a good reason for having the search function disabled at this time.

It amazing how indignant people can be about a Free service...

Did any NBR staff say it was disabled permanentely? I haven't seen anything, it was working yesterday.

Again, if something's not working there are workarounds like google until the situation is rectified. Instead let's all complain about how unfair it is that NBR has disabled the search function. :(

Edit: The search function is back. As if it's going to make much a difference in the number of post asking the same questions over and over...

Search is not back. And if the search was limited to members with 700+ posts while it was gone, well that is just completely backwards. The people with fewest posts should have been the ones having the ability to search to eliminate the start of redundant new threads. Ive already seen a bunch of threads that have started "I would have searched but I cant so....".

The admins have made a new usergroup for people with over 100 posts but under 700. That usergroup(called Junior Member group) can now search.

"We" make it so that members with a "high" number of posts can search since they are the ones answering the thread('new posts'/'todays posts' use the search) created by new members(who do not search/look at the stickies anyway) and they need to be able to check up on the threads they answered.

Hopefully, all members will be able to search pretty soon(the admins are making progress). Also, this thread is now closed since there are far too many threads on this problem...please keep an eye out for announcements or threads in the suggestion forum for future iupdates about this issue.

We're sorry for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.
