I have recently formatted my older computer and after all upgrades and service packs, all is well with the exception of the function of the shift and control keys. The shift function for selection works intermittently, but the control key function for selection does not work at all. I have run diagnostic tests on the hardware, and the keys are all registering and testing OK, but the selection functions are not right. I have also had a loud , continuous beep (from the bios?) on occasion, when trying to use these keys, that is out of my control, but will cease on it's own. Definitely not right. Any thoughts or suggestions for a solution? The selection keys are an important function for me.

Oh yes, these selection functions do work in safe mode.

These are the part numbers for my keyboard system configuration, as shown on My online Dell records.
