DXdiag is a program in Windows to allow you to check your systems configuration.

Start >> Run (In Vista, the search box) >> Type "dxdiag" >> press enter

As for service tag, goto your manufacturers website and look for a page where you can enter in the service tag.

Oh lol you mean like if it was a Sager (service tag) or Asus (service tag), yeah
it all depends on what site you are looking at, usually theres a specs link or tab that will tell you the configuration.

No, i guess not what exactly is it then?

    Go to dell.com
    click "product support"
enter the service tag, click "go"
    click "system configuration"

    That will take you here

How did everyone else manage to be so unhelpful?
