My new 1530 has shipped as of today and I've attempted to find its Service Tag so I can check on the 1440x900 screen and see if my prayers came true.
The rep I spoke with online said he would not give me my service tag number until it arrived and there was no other way to do so. True?
I also asked him for a part # and all he would give me was the generic 320- number.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

It should list the service tag on the packing slip provided on the order status page once the item is dispatched.
-
Just looked -- not there yet. Maybe because it was just updated as "shipped" today.
-
I got the service tag for my order during online chat with a CS rep when I was checking on the status after it shipped. Try again or phone in. My chat was with a Dell Canada rep that was actually IN Canada which may have made a difference.
I used the tag to find out ahead of time that my LED screen was a CMO. At first I was not happy about it, but now that I have it, it seems good enough. The glossy screen in general is what I don't like too much so not sure if the LED was worth the extra $150 over the CCFL for me. -
Yeah it really depends on the representative. Just try again or call Tech support with your order number to find the service tag.

i have a "System Tag" on my "Packing Slip" but when I try to use it to get system information it doesn't work. Guess i have to wait till monday, UPS tracking doesn't work yet eather
-
Is the "system tag" a 7 digit alphanumeric number? If so, it must be the service tag. You can go to support.dell.com, click technical support, then click warranty information. Input your service tag, and click the tab of "original system configuration" to view the components.
-
yup, 6 letters and 1 number, when i try to enter it this message pops up
Please ensure the service tag entered is valid. -
Really?? thats the first time I have seen that combination. Usually its at least 2 or 3 numbers and 4 to 5 letters. What really bugs me is that the service tag is inputted into the system's database as soon as your system is kitted (remember Dell unlike other companies, uses front-end serialization so that the system is always tracked by its service tag from the moment it is kitted). Are you checking the warranty status on the US site or in the Belgian/European site?
-
Don't think it really matters what site I use, tried US, UK and Belgian
Maybe its not the service tag, guess I'll have to wait for the barcode sticker -
Sometimes global sites take a little longer to get updated than the US site (and in other cases, its the other way around). That's why I was wondering.

I have tried to get my service tag early, but the sales rep gave me a flat out "no."
He gave me a number to call, 1-800-6958-133 extension 726-6402. I called and they said "No." I guess I'll try again tomorrow. There's nothing I can do, but I would like to know if I should worry or notI should get it Tuesday.
I ordered on the first, and it said the product will be shipped on the ninth. It was actually shipped on the fourth, and should arrive on the 8th (since when is second day shipping from Tennessee four days lol. Even with Sunday...) so..... I didn't know if I should be worried or happy about that. Hope they send me the right thingThe wait is killing me.

Hmm...so many refusals, I wonder why???? Perhaps Dell figured out that people were getting their service tags ahead of time to check on the screens etc. to complain and get replacements??? Just speculating...
-
Yeah, we'll they'll have one pissed customer on their hands if I'm not satisfied with the screen. This computer cost two grand AFTER the $600 instant savings, and for a system worth $2,600, I want a quality screen. I maxed out the insurance and care options, so if I am not happy I will get a replacement. If I am not happy with the replacement, I'll get another and another until I am a satisfied customer. I will ask for the specific product code to be sent, but if I don't get a quality screen I'll keep calling. I'm a repeat customer and Dell was honestly the first place I went to buy my first laptop, because of brand loyalty. I keep telling myself that most people are probably happy, because no one joins a forum just to express their satisfaction. That would be like raising your hand in class to tell the teacher you don't know the answer
I'm probably worrying over nothing. We'll see.
To be honest, this has put me off on the Samsung brand in general. I don't think I'll be buying any televisions from them any time soon. -
Kudos to your resiliance. Dell will definetly take care of you if you do experience problems.
-
mine was shipped on 4th, when i try to track it, all i get is a blank page on welsh western int and when i try to check up my service tag, i get message it is incorrect.
-
exactly the same here, guess it's normal and we'll have to wait till monday
-
This morning I got my answer. I had to select "general questions about my system" as an extension. The person I got was a very nice CSR named Rebbecca and she gave me my service tag number without a problem, so YES you can get it, in the US, before it arrives, but she said not until after it's been shipped. She did say she hasn't heard of the screen problem before, but she was very nice and more than happy to give my my service tag number before my system arrived.
Drumroll..... I'm getting a SamsungMaybe it'll be one of the good ones.

It's the 1680x1050 WSXGA+ TrueLife screen.

I received my service Tag on the phone today as well. They did ask why I wanted it before I even received it, and they were fine with providing it. Though I am upset I am suppose to be getting a Samsung. I guess the online tech was lying when he told me they were no longer using them due to the problems. I will see how it is when I receive it, but if I am not satisfied, I will be sending it back for a new one or just a refund. I am surprised its acceptable for them to use two manufactorers and yet the part is not 100% equal in quality.

I knew right away when I booted my last M1530 it was not a Samsung! -
Thanks for the response. Here is hoping it is an LG. Another question- you can tell what LCD it is from the outside of the laptop- correct? Is it underneath from the product stickers? Or is it found out through another way?

Kent...x1050 or x900?
-
I double checked. It is indeed RW985. If I'm not happy, they'll just have to replace it. Maybe once they replace enough screens, they'll stop sending their customers pieces of crap. But, maybe I'll get an LG instead

1 W345C LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, TLF, SAMSUNG..., V2
I guess that says it all
Is this 100% a samsung? -
In response to Silvergator - I have the 1050.
-
Monday morning here and my service tag still doesn't work. Also, the tracking number for UPS is the order number, is this correct ? Cuz it doesn't work
-
UPS tracking is working now, seems to be coming from Poland, but packaging slip said Ireland...
