My adapter recently failed again...so I'm having to order a new one off ebay...I have another charger that I can use but it doesn't actually charge the laptop battery, it just keeps it powered on (so if I unplug it, the battery drains, if i keep it plugged in, the battery remains constant).

My question is that is there any way I can set my laptop to have "maximum cpu performance" without having it plugged to an adapter? If that makes any sense at all? Because I have noticed that games I play become very choppy and the FPS drops to 1-2 when my laptop is not plugged in, but when it does, it shoots back up.

Having my laptop plugged in to an adapter that doesn't charge the battery still makes any games I run slow and choppy...On the quickset settings, the "minimum" and "maximum" processor rate is at 100% on both "plugged in" and "on battery" so I don't know what else to do..

Are you getting the infamous "AC adapter not recognized" message? That will prevent the machine from running at full speed (when connected to AC) unless you use something like ThrottleStop.

You should just be able to change Windows power settings on battery, though. Can you not change the power plan on battery? Does it just not let you?

Yes I am getting the not recognized message...I'll try to google ThrottleStop to see if it works, thanks!

I just want to say a massive thanks to you guys, I just reinstalled my 1520 due to lag. And after the reinstall I noticed the system still seemed to be running super slow compared to normal. I also had been having issues with my dell power brick not wanting to work sometimes and I would have to play with it. Funny thing is, after reading this, I plugged in a off-brand one I got from ebay as an extra (I travel a lot) and now the cpu is bouncing it's speeds all over the place again and working good again. You guys don't know what it means to me being able to be happy with my laptop once again. On the plus side I had been needing to do a reinstall so my 1520 is running spiffy once again :D.
