Hey everyone. I am currently in the process of finding a laptop to purchase. After reading many reviews and having heard recommendations, I began to focus on the M1530. However, I'm now starting to question that possibility for several reasons.

My friend who has had experience with a Dell laptop (three years ago and not an XPS) and several Dell desktops told me it was a bad choice, as he generally had problems with them. One of his computers apparently just stopped working, or "fried" as he put it. He also mentioned the inadequate service Dell provides.

Looking through the Dell manufacturer thread on NBR, I see people are questioning the build quality of the M1530, as well as talking about problems with the webcam, which does not seem good at all. I question the laptop now, as video conferencing will be a VERY important aspect of laptop use.

What do you guys think about the matter?

I wouldn't worry about it, the people that come here are most likely the ones with problems which are a small percentage. Keep in mind that you have a 21 day time frame when you can return it for a full refund.

the XPS line is certainly an improvement to dell. But you will have to watch out for grainy screens and screwed up hinges. Buying from Dell is sorta like a gamble, you can get either a very well built laptop, or you can end up with minor/major issues. If you are willing to take the risk, then go ahead and purchase it, there is always a return policy :)

Hi! I have the 1530, and really enjoy it!!! I haven't had any major issues with mine!! The screen is fine on mine, and also the build quality.. :D

I think you should get the 1530, if you have been checking it out! ;) That's just my opinion, though!!!

And, if it doesn't work for you like the others said...you can always return it within Dell's return policy period.

I had to go through a lot of heartache to get a good screen, and even then I put it in myself but I did not mind that part. Apart from that issue I love it. The screen I have now is amazingly fantastic and the whole unit looks, feels and performs great. I am on this way more than my desktop even though my desktop is better for games. This is just such a fun and cool unit and I love being able to enjoy it on the couch.

HL1??? :D Really? Once in a while I go for a TF match...

For the OP, the M1530 is a great laptop. It replaced my Alienware Aurora M7700 and for me there's no going back. I don't even have a desktop anymore.

Lol guys, i tried playing warcraft 3 on my cousin's 15" laptop and i could barely find the keys =.=" i guess im too used to desktop keyboard/monitor , thats why i decided not to use laptops until university :)

but then again..overall this laptop is DAMN attracting...and with product red it looks SeXy..im also wondering if this laptop is worth taking the risk to buy for replacing my home desktop since it sucks to use it for schooling cuz the high gloss screen will turn it into a mirror

So, OBreaux1 if you're really going to get this....try to get a request for an LG screen so it will save a trip back to the depot :)

Hmm, thanks for the advice. I'll have to take into consideration the whole screen gamble and somehow pursue a way to get an LG screen. Any suggestions?

The other significant factor in my laptop search is the quality of the integrated webcam. I will be using it ALOT, so I need something decent. Although I have an external one, I do not want to deal with it when I'm not in my dorm. From reading around on NBR, it seems that many people's M1530 webcams produce 7 frames/sec usually. Are these people a minority, or is this common to ALL M1530s? Unfortunately, this may end up being the deciding factor, even though I really like the laptop. :[

1400x900 resolution will most likely get u an LG screen, however there are cases where people end up with the crappy samsung. I haven't really heard on any issues with the webcam besides some cases where the stick out of the screen...but i think that could be fixed

The customer service is awesome. This is my first time working with Dell customer service and they've been nothing but nice and accommodating. Patient too. Try to get the extended warranty-- you won't regret it.
