Just a quick question, I am ready to buy a new laptop and have a pretty good price on an inspiron 1525 through the EPP, & am just wondering if anyone knows if there are normally better deals in the new year?

    My price is $1085:
    Core 2 duo T5800
    4GB DDR2
    320GB SATA HD 5400rpm
    Intel wireless n
    bluetooth
3 year at home & accidental damage.

    Thanks in advance

You're in luck, the 1525 is deal of day today go through that link to configure it see whats the total and compare with EPP.

New year deal probably wouldnt be as good as now (Quarter reset)

    $549 - Deal of Day

Thanks, I already priced it in home as well, but I get a better deal with EPP with an extra 7% off, with the same specs it is $1274 in dell home. I think I will get it now rather than wait.

    Thanks for your help.

The EPP deals with Dell aren't always the best deal available. You could actually get a Studio 15 with the specs you listed for $1,028 (at the moment).

The Studio 15 has several distinct advantages over the Inspiron 1525-

Display- Standard LED-backlit display (1525 has CCFL-backlit display)
Brighter, more vibrant images, weighs less and substantially more energy efficient than older CCFL-backlit units.

    Better integrated graphics-
The Studio 15 includes the newest Intel integrated graphics (Intel GMA 4500MHD), which doubles the performance capability of the previous-generation Intel GMA X3100 (still used in the 1525).

More customization options- Studio 15 offers over 100 different colors/patterns/designs to choose from. It also offers options such as an Integrated Fingerprint Reader (with or w/o Facial Recognition capability), Back-lit Keyboard, dedicated grapihcs cards, higher resolution displays and more. It also is quite a bit thinner and sleeker looking than the Inspiron 1525 (1.3" high at thickest point vs. 1.48" for the 1525).

Here's a link to get the price I mentioned- http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dndora7&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&m_2=PFLXP&mo=2~PFLXP&i_m_2:pFLXP=1397&kc=productdetails~laptop-studio-1537 Note- the price will show as $724 initially, but selecting the Jet Black color option will reduce the price to $649.

If you want an even more powerful configuration of the Studio 15, this model comes to $1,163 including the 3-yr Warranty and Accidental Damage. It adds a 2.26GHz Intel P8400 processor, 256mb ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3450 graphics card and fingerprint reader for the extra $135- http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=19&kc=6F968&oc=DNPCUZ2&x=17&y=10

Ok, thanks for the info, I just checked out the studio and according to the Dell site, the studio 15 is heavier than the 1525, weight is something of a consideration & also I am not a gamer, so would it really be better for me?

IS it just wrong or double dipping to combine DPA and EPP hehhe.

    DPA+EPP= oh baby!

now after CES on January 8th I will have an over does of buyers remorse. And emotionally eat my way back to reality.

    And, it's a nice add..when purchasing larger $$$ gadget items :D :D :D

I will prob's be using it to purchase one of the TV's...I've been slowly reviewing and pondering! ;)

tell me about the HDTV's I've been eyeing the Philips 120hz 1080p 42" 2ms response. I saw it when it was $999, now its back up to $1400.

Is this on Dell's site? Because for the last week...I have found it very hard not to hit the *submit* button at checkout for the HDTV's on Dell's site. :D

With EPP & the DPA 4% discount...it has been very hard to turn away from Dell's site  I was looking at the Phillips 42", the Sony Bravia 42", and the Sharp 42"!

Dell's deals always come and go on these things. Give it a few days..and that deal will prob's be back. ;)

basically I want/need to buy direct from dell because I am in Germany and they are one of the few that will ship a laptop here, also I can get the European in home service. But now as someone recommended the studio instead of inspiron I am dithering, and am also now looking at the XPS, which is probably overkill as I am not a gamer...aaargh I need someone to say get this one it's brilliant!!!

Well...I have the XPS 1530, I am not a *gamer*. I enjoy the 1530 (first lappy). It suits my needs very well. Almost a year old and still working like I would/and do expect it too. For multi-media/multi-tasking and general usage..it's awesome to me :D

No one can tell you what to buy. :) But, if your that torn between several models, it might be best you go here:

I also have a 1530.. and aside from a few mediadirect issues, it is great... I'm running it as a dual boot (vista & fedora).. and it has a RW blu-ray drive which is a great option for burning backups..

however.. I'd recommend waiting for boxing week, as well as in jan.. since prices will likely drop.
