The 1280x800 is standard but the 1440x900 is high resolution much better I think from the 1680x1050 I have now. I am packaging my current laptop up for a refund but I am deciding now what screen I want with my new order. I am worried about the grainy screen and wierd noises in the headphones that many have complained about. I was lucky with this system because it had zero problems.
My only concern is that the lower screen resolutions will not show games the way this one did. Anyway, what should I do? go to the standard size or get the one in the middle and try to get the best of both worlds? lol![]()

why are you returning your current laptop?
what did you not like about it? -
Why are you sending back the 1520?
-
mm, yes the 1520
screen size is too small for me and makes it difficult for me to edit pictures and stuff for my websites even when I change the DPI. The menus and the overall layout looks better but I still see all the important stuff smaller. It's too big a hurdle for me to get use too. I hope that makes sense -
Dude, at the highest resolution the screen is way big. What's the beef? Sounds like you need to get a separate monitor and output to that.

Why is that a horrible thing? You paid for something that makes it too small to use.
I'd return it and get a resolution that would make it usable. -
I have 1440x900 and I must say I picked the right one. Its not too big or not too small. Its the perfect size for a 15.4in screen. I think only the 17in models should have the 1680x1050 size. Pick the 1440x900, you won't be disappointed.

If I were you, I would go to a retail store and check out screens, 99% of which are 1280 x 800. I honestly don't think you'll notice much difference in games.
I have the 1440 x 900 but it's all personal preference. -
I kinda get the feeling you will regret going back down to a lower resolution after you've had that....

have my 1440 1520 and 1280 1520 side by side right now and damn i can really see how crappy those 1440 screens are. this new 1280 screen i have is so much brighter.
went through 3 1440 1520s and all the screens sucked...this is my 1st 1280 and screen is amazing. -
1) you didn't get the crappy grainy screen
2) you didn't get the crappy headphone jack
3) there's a chance for you to get 1 & 2 in your replacement laptop
Anyway, if you really find things look too small in your current screen resolution, just pick the 1280x800. You see, higher resolution means you can fit a lot in a screen, but everything will then look smaller, as compared to lower resolution in a screen of the same size. -
wohast, is ur 1280x800 screen the truelife version?

I've got the 1280 x 800. I think this resolution is just about right for a 15.4" screen, but it's a personal preference. My screen is fantastic.
-
It's all personal preference.
Some people think 1280x800 is just right fo a 12"....
1440x900 is jut right for 14", 15"
1680x1050 is just right for 17"
and so on....
I really think you need to look at a 1280x800 screen, work on it, see how you like working on a screen where everything is larger but you have less desktop space to work on.
Then, I would go with the right screen. -
Unless you are really into blur. -
I have 1680x1050 with truelife in my Vostro1500 and I can not imagine going back to a lower resolution. This screen is absolutely beautiful. Just my 2c.

I choose the 1440x900, but I then bought a LG Flatron wide 20" 3000:1 contrast 2MS refresh for $239+tax.
I use the 20" at 1680x1050 and laptop 1440x900 dual.
I think Dell charges about $150 extra for the 1680x1050 screen, I would recommend getting the basic screen and use the $150 towards a nice shiny new 20"-22" screen that can be had for about $239.00-$269.00 easy.
Should I do it? The 1280x800 or 1440x900?
