I am obviously not a patient man since I am posting this....but I am sure plenty of you know the feeling.

My order has been in the build stage for 8 days now and the estimated shipping date is getting ready to roll around very soon. Considering it still has a few more stages to go through I do not see how it can make that date. The odd thing is I did not get anything fancy, upgraded to the 8600 GT and the 1440x900 resolution screen, that is it, and neither mentioned delaying the order. Has anyone received their order without it ever showing it was processed and shipped or should I just assume a delay is on the horizon?

That womans voice on the automated order status number is really going to get my blood boiling if I have to hear about writing down the fact that it is in the build stage one more time. :)

    Hey,

I was in the Build Stage on a wednesday and my estimated delivery date was on the coming Friday. I thought the exact same thought of how there was no way the ESD would be made.

BUT...the very next day, it went from Build Stage to Shipped..all in a span of a couple hours.

I ended up getting my laptop one day after my ESD.

I know its impossible to be patient with Dell..but it will be worth it :)

EDIT: I was in the build stage for nearly 10 days..you should be done soon

Typically it will go from build to testing which normally takes only a few hours if there are no issues. The real wait for me was in the boxing stage which took 4 days prior to shipping. If you are in the US, the boxing stage is when they actually fly your finished system to the US from Malaysia. My bet is a small delay is in your future. If your ESD date comes and goes, call up Dell and get upgraded to next day (if you did not have that shipping already).

Thanks guys. Yeah I am hoping for the first post but expecting the second. I am going to be sure to call them if it does get delayed though. Still seems weird to me what with the fairly stock setup I got. I feel really sorry for the people that customized with things that state they WILL delay your order. I can imagine with fuel prices the way they are, Dell is not shipping anything until its absolutely full up as well.

I got an upgrade to free next day shipping and I am still two weeks from my ESD.

Glad to hear it! I am betting it will take 2 or 3 days. Mine must have been the first on the pallett heading here from Malaysia and they had to wait to get a fulll shipment.

I'll check again tonight when I get home and see if we've moved on to shipped...I'm crossing my fingers to get lucky and get the system on Friday but if not I'm expecting it to come sometime next week.

Well, I called them and they said there is no delay (it is supposed to ship tomorrow) and that it will be here by the time the order status lists. It is still in the build stage and they confirmed that, still has not gone through testing or boxing so I have a feeling it might just be hot air being blown up my you know what and I can expect the delay email tomorrow.

Got the email today like I expected I would. New shipping date is the 22. Might have to cancel it and order from someone else. I ordered a laptop because I needed one soon, not because I wanted to wait 3 weeks to a month to get it.

The only reason I have not canceled it yet is because I am sure dell will take forever to release the hold on the money on my credit card, negating any benefit of ordering from someone else(have to wait for the hold to clear).

I know most of you are die hard xps fans, but do a guy a favor... What would be a decent alternative? I need something fairly powerful, with the 8600M GT etc. Any suggestions would be great. Just wondering in case I can get the hold removed in a reasonable amount of time, otherwise I'm just out of luck and will have to wait.

I blame myself as well(not really bashing dell here :)), wish I had found this site before I ordered and I would have known an xps is not the system to order if you are working within a certain time frame.

I nearly bought a Sony FZ before buying my XPS 1530...only thing that stopped me is the ridiculous warranty prices Sony has...

It all depends on what you really need your system to do...a popular make/model on NBR is Lenovo's T61p, but I don't actually know much about that system.

I was looking into the Lenovo Ideapads but can't find an over abundance of information on them. I can find some but the little I have found makes me want to just say screw it and wait, hopefully what I need the laptop for will not be as huge a problem as I think it will. The Ideapads look nice, but with no customization it looks like the screen resolution would suck.

I would look into the Sager. This Systemseem to be comparable to the M1530 but it does not have an HDMI port.

Okay, now it is just weird. I was paying the credit card I used to buy the dell laptop and see that the hold they had on it is gone (I did not cancel it)...and when I try to call the order status line and put in my order number it says nothing but kicks me off to a customer care line.
