The 5400 rpm hard drive will have longer battery life, but the 7200 rpm hard drive will have faster performance.
Which do you recommend?

I'd get the 7200rpm HD for its faster performance. Since I usually use my notebook plugged in, battery life isn't much of an issue.

I have a D630 with the 120 GB (Actually with the format and stuff they put in it is at 97 GB) 5400 rpm hard drive. Applications load up quickly as well as installing programs. As many of the people on the site have stated, unless you are doing HD intensive applications you will hardly notice the difference.

previous tests reveal the battery saved between using 5400rpm and 7200rpm is very minimal.
I wished I could pull up where i read that, but it was from a reliable source. -
Noise and price are the only reasons I'd consider the 5400rpm. I think the battery life difference is really minor. Still, it's a tough call.

There isn't much battery life difference between the 7200rpm and 5400rpm drives. The 120gb 7200rpm is the obvious choice.

Probably won't notice a HUGE difference unless you are pushing the machine hard and doing something that requires a lot of writing to the disk.

So, for example, if you use sound engineering software with intensive cpu, memory and harddisk operations like I do, you should get the 7200rpm drive.
For daily routine office and web work get the 5400rpm drive.
Should I get my Dell Latitude D630 with a 120 GB 5400 rpm or a 120 GB 7200 hard drive.
