Hi Friends,
I am from India... just wanted to know if anyone has idea if it is worth to go for extended warranty... (you can see details of my laptop in my signature).
Details of extended warranty as given by a dell representative are as follows:-
>One year Next Business Day 8x5 warranty extension price is Rs.6646/-, and Two years for the same is Rs.11079/- (taxes all inclusive)
>One year Next Business Day 8x5+ Complete Cover warranty extension price is Rs 8227/-, and Two years for the same is Rs.15500/- (taxes all inclusive)
I am confused by following point in their contract
6. Only DELL hardware products/components are supported. Dell will not be in a position to accept part orders
I have sent them mail regarding clarification of the above contract point...
Can you please suggest me if I should go for extended warranty and if yes then which one?
Thanks
Dhruva

If you plan on using it for a few years it might be a good idea. What do you need clarified in point 6? It just means they will use their own parts, you can't buy the parts yourself and have them use them in the fix.

How much are you paying for the laptop? And how are you going to use it? If you are just going to keep it mostly at your home (like a desktop replacement) then maybe complete care is not necessary. On the other hand if you travel with it daily and run the risk of damaging it (commuter train etc.) then CC is worth considering. I normally buy extended warranties because I don't have a very good history with electronics. My previous XPS M1210 broke down twice after the first year (both the display and motherboard had to be changed) luckily I had 3 year warranty. My current notebook also had to go through a motherboard replacement after just 8 months, since I have the famous failing 8400M GS GPU it is likely to fail again (but because I bought 3 year CC, I have no worries).
If you are planning to use it for more than a year, then paying 10% ~ 15% of the notebooks total value on extended warranty is not a bad idea. -
Thanks to both of you... I am going for One year Next Business Day warranty.
Thanks -
Since there have been problems with the NVIDIA 8600 GT I would suggest getting the warranty. I have nearly the same Dell and got the extended warranty (3 years) after the NVIDIA issues started to arise.
