Should I take a chance and order?

I want the 1520 so bad. I've looked around at HP's, Asus, etc. But none have everything that I want, perfectly. The grainy screen problems and the headphone jack noise problem are really scaring me. I don't know if the problems are less frequent or not now, but I hope they are, and I'm not sure if I wait a few weeks the problem will be any better. I'm going to be getting the in-home warranty, and I guess if there's anything wrong they can come and fix the problems. Should I just go and order it and hope for the best?

Just order it, there's always going to be someone complaining about something and that's just the way it is.
Get it, judge for yourself. You can return no charge for the first 21 days or something.
Only harm is having to pick a different laptop.
I'm going for it, i'm sure it'll be fine, if it's not well i'll deal with it then.

Which screen are you wanting? The wxga + seems to be most affected. But recent posts on the second batch of 1520's shipping out say the problem is not as bad. I have not heard any of the recent people receiving these saying they would ship them back because of the screen.

I think the headphone jack is probably something to be more concerned over. Since that seems to be widespread and reported by a majority of 1520 users. But if you are willing to use a creative expresscard for sound.. that problem would go away.. And some are getting that card for free because of the sound issue.

If you can goto a Dell kiosk or a store that sells them, and check out the screen and take some headphones.

If everything is to your liking on the display sample, then order. Then if the one you get is all messed up you know it is because they sent you a bad machine, and not just a lower quality screen that they put in there.

I agree. Everyone said the D630 screens have problems with color accuracy. I have not seen any problems yet.

    Another good idea.

Great idea.. but no dell/kiosk in New Mexico for me.. But I will know soon enough on Monday if the 1420 wxga + is affected by the dreaded graininess disease. I think the display problems have probably been blown out of proportion to some extent. However, I am sure there were some panels that were really bad from the first batch.. At least thats the impression I get from those the got the first 1520's.

Id get the Widescreen XGA basic screen. Havent heard anyone complain with them and sure, they arent the highest resolution screen, but are perfect for most customers.

Dell is partnering with Walmart and Costco soon, not sure how soon. But that might be an option too.
