Should I try to get the $200 Dell Unleashed coupon?

I registered for Dell Unleashed just a few days before they started offering the $200 off coupon for registering, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to fight for it. I have two questions regarding this coupon:

    1) Could I apply it to the Dell XPS M1330? Even if it says I cannot, has anyone had any success actually applying it?

    2) What else is this coupon combinable with? Would it negate the standard 6% (with one-year warranty) student discount I would get?

    Thanks.

    1) I don't think it works on the XPS, since I haven't heard of anyone having any success with it (and people have definitely been trying to get discounts on it; I'm sure a $200 coupon would be public knowledge by now).

    2) I know that it used to stack with everything, including the 6% discount you mentioned, 7-10% DellCare discounts, and even "Instant Savings on select Inspirons" discounts. I heard more recently that it stopped working with the latter, instead replacing the "Instant Savings" in much the same way as the normal Dell coupons from this site; I've heard of varying success calling a Dell rep and having the coupons stack.

Now, I'm in the same situation you are. I signed up before the coupon was announced, and I've e-mailed Dell a few times with no response. I'm hoping I'm going to be able to call, or something... if you get something to work, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know how you got it.

If it doesn't apply to XPS machines, it would be pretty useless for me to try, I guess. No matter what, I might as well mention it if I call to order.

If you're calling, it wouldn't hurt to ask if it works with XPS machines. You should definitely mention it, and then post back here if you would.

Why did people say it's good on XPS systems? Looking at delluniveristy.com, it says only for Inspirons. Am I missing something?

Well, some people said they got it to work or something...Or maybe they're all just insane. We'll see, I guess. :)

Just tried, and the $200 coupon does NOT work on the M1330. Sorry.

You must have just recently acquired a student discount coupon. ;)

    Oh? Elaborate, please.

And if certain coupons do work, what are the restrictions?

I got one from someone who wasn't using theirs. I'm going to be a university student, so it's all good. It doesn't stack with anything, and the $200 comes off before the EPP percentage discount kicks in. Like...

If you configured a notebook for $1600, you don't get the 12% and then the $200 off. The $200 comes off the price, dropping it to $1400, and then you get 8%. It replaces "Dell Instant Savings on Select Inspirons," so even if you pick the lowest base configuration you don't get the full $200 off; the most I got was an additional $130, since the "Good" option comes with a $70 "Instant Savings." I'm a bit disappointed, actually... this is a worse deal than I realistically thought.

I may call and see what I can get done. If I end up not using it... we'll see.

Does your coupon work with XPS notebooks?

I ordered a 1720 on 6/30 when the "Dell Instant Savings on Select Inspirons" did stack with the $200 student discount coupon. After seeing the "Price Is Dropping" thread, I configured the 1720 again this afternoon to see what the current price is on my configuration. It was $160 bucks less today, but that was assuming the coupons still stacked. If they won't stack, then the current price is probably about the same as when I ordered. So now I don't feel so bad. Glad you found a coupon, and hope you can make use of it. :D

Joshnumbers, I already posted and said that, no, it doesn't. An Inspiron coupon doesn't work on the brand spanking new XPS that's selling like hotcakes. *Gasp*

A $160 difference might save you a bit, depending on which base configuration you used.

Oh, I thought you got another one or something -- that's why I asked again.

Anyway, Ag76, do you know of some coupons that do work with the XPS M1330? You seemed to be alluding to that.

Alright, then I'll stop worrying about the $200 coupon. Again, if I call, I'll bring it up, but I'm not expecting to be able to get it.

That $75 "persistence" discount, however... :)
