    Hey,

I'm new here, but it's thanks to this site that made me buy the M1530 :D . Anyways, here are the specs I got:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
    Tuxedo Black Casing
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD (LG :) ) (Soon to be LED. It was confirmed)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
200G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
    Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    4 Year Limited Warranty
    Bluetooth
    Total: $1577.72

I know that the LED is only for small business, but I wonder if I can talk them into giving one to me. I mean, they didn't even check if I was from a university for EPP (I am fyi.) The screen is excellent, but seeing how the LED is lighter and brighter, should I go for it? I just bought this and I know how long people have been waiting for the LED screen. I'm wondering if it's worth the time and money to get one. I don't know if I should return it and wait for LED to be available. Any advice would be great!

If the laptop is not yet in production, cancel the order and order again. Don't wait until you have the laptop! Or do you already have it? I don't know what Dell would say if you have a perfectly working laptop and you want to send it back to get a LED screen. Normally you would only send it back because of warranty issues, but this is ofcourse not a warranty issue.

If you have an excellent screen, I think you should keep it.

I agree with you. The LGs are quite bright to begin so the gain could be minimal.

I already had it for about 2 weeks? I just heard about LED today, so I was wondering if I could exchange it. I am fine with what I have. I love the screen =)

Yeah it works just fine. Can I then by chance upgrade the screen in the future once the laptop does have some sort of problem?

I had an M1330 with LED screen, sold it (mainly because the resolution of 1280 x 800 was too low for me) and ordered an M1530 with 1680 x 1050 screen (which UPS is delivering today, but I'm not at home... :( ).

When I ordered the M1530, there were no LED screens available on the M1530 yet. The LED screen on the M1330 was very good - very thin and bright. If the choice was there when I ordered the M1530, I would certainly have gone for the LED screen.

But I'm not going to send back my M1530 if it has a perfectly good CCFL screen.

Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price paid.

If you have a good display - keep it. The gains with the LED can be minimal if you have a nice, sharp, and bright LCD.

Also if you don't have any dead-pixels that should also play into your consideration.

I recently have replaced my M1210 with LCD to M1330 with LED and the difference is absurdly obvious! Of course that tidbit of information didn't help you...

Haha that tidbit made me want an LED, but considering the restocking fee, I don't think it's worth it. Thanks for the information!

Woot, just called Dell. They're changing my screen free of charge! They said it was a "one time customer satisfaction" option. Wonder what that means? I would have kept the screen I had if it hadn't been free. I hope other people get the same options I did.

So you had recently placed an order for a laptop with a LCD and you called dell back to get a LED replacement? So it's possible to get a LED screen if you call and ask?

My laptop is in production. I wonder if I can call and get them to switch it to a LED screen.

Apparently you can. I already have my laptop and they are going to switch my screen. I don't know about orders in progress, but it can't hurt to try. I don't have the LED yet, but I'll let you know if it worked out in the end.

    Phallus,

You have nothing to lose if that's the screen you want. Let us know if you call in and they're able to change it.

I've had mine for two months now and it is as bright as it can be. I see no need for the LED. :)

I got the m1330 with the led-backlit.. .it is waaaay nice--thin and super bright. The only downside is the downgraded webcam, which is kind of a drag. sitll, it performs better than a lot of other .3mp webcam, so it's no biggy.

i would definitely go with the led backlight for a new machine, but it's probab;y not worht the hassle of trading in though.
