I currently have the dell inspiron E1705 (17inch 1920x1200),2GB RAM,core 2 duo 1.83Ghz with the nvidia 7900gs card. I bought this one for about $1500 at the time based on the recommendations in this forum and I loved it for most games.

Right now I wanna upgrade to another budget gaming laptop. It doesn't look like dell currently has any budget laptops with good video cards. The closest thing I can get is the dell xps m1530 with the below specifications for $1436 with tax:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)
    8600 gt card
    1920x1200
    160GB 7200 rpm
    4GB RAM
    a few other specifications

Should I get this? Or should I wait for another dell 17 inch with a better video card? You think they will release one in the next few weeks? I'm worried about getting this one then regretting not getting a better video card later.

Check out Dell's Outlet. You can get a similarly specc'd machine for less than $1k.

I'm not so sure that a 8600M GT is gonna be much faster then your 7900GS (if at all). If you want to get a gaming laptop I'd make sure you get a 8800 or 9800 series graphics chip. The hardware you have is still very recent and not much slower then an XPS M1530. I seriously would not upgrade just yet if I where you.

This is the best bidget gaming laptop out right now. Its not a dell :( but it will give you a substantial upgrade for games and everything.

I agree completely. You're either going to have to pay substantially more to get a real upgrade, or just wait a while for midrange notebooks to get substantially better than what you have.

If I were investing in the 1920x1200 screen, I would definately look for a better graphics card. If you plan to game at that resolution anyway. Otherwise, Nvidia GPUs are showing up defective everywhere at this time . . . I would not be spending the money on one at this time.
