I just tried to order two 1420s from dell. Like any normal customer, i wanted to see if i could get any additional discounts from them as i read that you could get up 75$ off additionally in another thread. However, i chatted with a few dell reps and neither budged on the prices. Do you guys think i'd have better luck trying to call or going to the mall kiosks? Also, for those of you who were able to get your dells cheaper, any advice? thanks

from what ive heard, the more expensive your notebook is, the most likely they are to budge on the price. If your looking at 1200, dont bother looking for a deal on the price.

I originally called dell a week back and put a system together. The agent chopped 100 dollars off. But it still cost over 1500 dollars. I cancelled that order and thought I would be better off with a d630.. But the d630 just does not have all the features I need.. Then I bought another system yesterday and the agent gave me nothing off.. But it was cheaper since dell is now offering free upgrade to 2 gigs on 1420 and larger HD 160 GB. That system cost 1275 dollars. After that, I saw the coupon on this site and build that same system online for only 1109 dollars. I cancelled the second order. I understand that the agent gets nothing now.. but he offered me zero discounts. If Dell is still offering free memory and HD upgrade then use the dell coupon on this site.. Build your system and at some point you will see a place where to apply coupon. That should give you a fantastic price and i don't think any agent will be able to match it.

I feel much better.. the original system I built had one extra year waranty and accidental insurance... I also dropped my processor down one notch from t7300 to t7100. I still have two years warannty on the system I am going to keep. The difference is almost 400 dollars for a slightly better processor and one more year waranty.. So use the coupon and save yourself the grief I went through.. and that coupon is only good til the 12th july.

I was able to get an additional $50 off after the $350 coupon..but I agreed to purchase with my preferred card....The people on the phone did not budge, I had to get that deal with the online people...and even that took several of them before I ended up with one who gave it to me, I think it was out of Canada because the senior agent who called to confirm the order was out of Dell Canada.

You are better of calling than the kiosk.

I went to a kiosk today in chandler arizona. I found a coupon online for $350 of inspiron notebooks costing $1399+. I then went to the kiosk and because my system was $1608 (before the $350 off) they were able to give me a unique discount coupon code for $150 off. The 1520 system I bought also had free 2gig memory upgrade, free 160gig hard drive upgrade, and free shipping. I am happy.

I didn't get the full $75, but I did get him to give me $65 (after the $350 coupon and 7% Dell Care discount), which was equal to the 4% DPA discount that I was asking for that he couldn't find in the system

the discount if you use your Dell Preferred Account card, which I applied for during my 1520 phone order. After he had given me the total after coupon, I asked about the 4% discount that others had reported using DPA. He couldn't get it to come up, but he asked his supervisor and they gave me 4% off manually. I didn't really try that hard.

Do you know if that 4% also applies to the XPS M1330?

My rep took about 150 dollars off from my dell student price. 50 dollars of it was for opening a dell credit account.
