I want to replace my old Vaio....
and after some survey, i so fall in love with XPS M1330,
and think to order it.... but.... after searching in google and you tube, i know there is mobo fail...., loud noise slot drive.... and buzzing sound on the machine problems

i read threads about mobo replacement... but i am not sure it solve the problems

shoul i countinue buy it or go to my second choice Sony Vaio CR series (so much expensive and so less future and spec compare to m1330)

    please help me
and sorry for my bad english

Not every M1330 has problems with the motherboard.

    What country are you in?
Check the Terms of Sale for your country.
In the US, you can return the laptop if you don't like it, for a full refund including shipping, if you contact Dell within 21 days of when they sent the laptop.

I have had 0 problems with my M1330, and as previously mentioned wait and try it for yourself before deciding. Dell has a good return policy.

I love my 1330! If they have a return policy in Japan I would go for it. I think you will love yours too :).

Any laptop can have a motherboard fail.

The slot load drive isn't as noisy as some people hysterically lead others to believe.

I am in the same boat. But there are so many other XPS1330 owners who has no problems and are really happy.Current issue of Laptopmag has rated XPS1330 as their Editiers choice. Just like you even I am hesitated to spend $1800 + and then get a headacheso lets wait for some replys from other XPS1330 owners.

You have nothing to lose if there is a good return policy in Japan.

    I say go for it!

    I love my M1330!

Mine had a build quality issue, but one exchange resolved that.

I had the same kind of apprehensions before I decided on a 1330 but decided to take a chance. All I can say is that I did the right thing... It is the perfect notebook for me..!

I have had my 1330 for over a month now. t9500.
it's great, way better than the sony vaio I had or my friend had.
I can't say enough about that computer.

My husband just took it on a business trip and fell for it big.
    Now I've lost it!! lolol

    Go for it!

Haven't had any motherboard problems, although once in a while, there will be a high-pitched whine when the battery's charging. I'll live.

As for the slot-loading drive, I thought it was loud at first, but I didn't have any experience with other slot-loading drives. I had a chance to use a MacBook at work for a while recently, and that slot-loading drive is almost as bad. If you're coming from tray-loaders, yes, the loading mechanism may surprise you, but it's comparable to other slot-loading drives.

I don't regret my purchase at all.

It is a big decision but not worth this much stress. Look to see Dell Japan's return policy (I can't see that they would not have some sort of period like the US and Canada where you have 21/30 days to return the laptop, no questions asked). If it has a grace period (a period where you can return it for any reason) then go for it, you have nothing to loose. If you don't like it or it has problems, then you can go for the Sony if you wish (or exchange it if it has problems, or get it repaired, etc...). No worries, just get it and enjoy!

I had a tremendous amount of trouble with my 1330. But I still recommend it. I was unlucky and got a lemon. Dell agreed and sent me a new one.

If you live in Japan isn't the LG P300 available there? It's basically the same as an SZ or XPS but is...i believe the only 13.3"er to sport an nvidia 8600? If i could get one in Canada i would swap my SZ or D630 for it.

You can get the LG in Canada. It is sold by Future Shop. Take a look at their website :). I think the LG has promise but, like the Sony, it is $2,000. The 1330 is so much cheaper with the same configuration. Albeit, the 1330 does not have 8600 but apart from that the 1330 is so much better value for money. Anyway, good luck with FS.

    Hmm...don't see the LG:

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/subclass.asp?logon=&langid=EN&catid=25313

But i do see it on the LG Canada site now...thanks a bunch...if it weren't for the coming release of montevina i would buy this in a heartbeat. Hopefully when montevina comes out LG will update this with a 9600. Thanks!

To answer the poster of this thread...XPS is a pretty nice computer considering the price it sells for now. Internals almost identical to my SZ and with HDMI to boot too. Quality is decent but not as good as my SZ or D630 but is by no means bad. I think between the SZ,XPS, and P300 there is no bad choice. Keep in mind i have only owned the XPS and SZ and have never seen a P300 but in pictures...i mean it could have issues but haven't heard too much since it is only now becoming more popular. Or you could wait for montevina refresh this summer/fall.
