i bought my lappy for £625..my specs are in my sig.. my best friend badly wants a 17" lappy..he saw mine and fell in love with it..he's offering me £800 for it..what do i do?? I wanted the m1530..do i accept?? or the 17" of the vostro is important?? i'm more into software engineering...is the drop from 17" to 15 " going to affect me?? i also like to game from time to time..WHAT DO I DO??? I'm F*cking getting excited.. if i add £100 more and buy a top specced m1530, will this be a good choice??can i upgrade the processor just like the vostro??i mean, plug and play??is the move from the vostro 1700 to the m1530 worth it??

Gaming would probably be better on the M1530, since its video card uses GDDR3 instead of GDDR2.

Do you travel a lot? The Vostro has a sturdier build, but the M1530 has a very slick design. If you play a lot of games, you'll definately notice a difference between the DDR2 of the Vostro and the DDR3 of the 1530.
Overall, I say go for it/

Having a 15.4" laptop makes it easier to port. The 1530 will be much lighter than the 1700. The screen sizes aren't TOO big of a difference, but it will be smaller. To offset this, just get a higher resolution screen on it.

    P.S. I would do it ;)

i think the numpad makes the whole difference between the screen..i forgot to menton that i will have to remain without lappy for 2 months coz my sister will not be coming here till that time and it is her who always buys my lappies.. is there still the problem of grainy screen?

Unfortunately yes, but I have the general impression it's mainly the WSXGA+ screens that are having the grainy problem. Check the grainy screen thread though

If you need the number pad, stick with the 1700.

The laptop is still very expensive here. perhaps more than £800 coz there are no online dell shops..There are retailers who blast your pocket..an eaxample: The inspiron 1720 with base configuration and 1.6GHZ processor, and 1gb ram is £800.. besides that, i have used the laptop for less than 2 months..i bought it on the 11th of january...the plastics are still on it... (which shows how i care for my lappy!! :D )

No, i dont care about the numpad.i just wanted to know if i have a high probability of getting grainy screen on the 1440*900 display..but apparently, the risk is low.. i also wanted to know if there is a great difference between 17" and 15.4" because in programming, we use multiple windows and sometimes, forms are also big..so a bigger screen will be a disadvantage... could a software engineer respond to this?? or someone who knows a bit about this...

If you're going from 1440x900 on a 17" screen to 1440x900 on a 15" screen, the same amount of stuff will fit on the screen. It will just be smaller.

I can't answer that for you.
1440x900 on a 15.4" screen isn't eye straining for me, but whether you find it eye-straining depends on your eyes, not mine.

isnt the vostro alot cheaper than the xps? well i guess its 17 vs 15 so it shouldnt be too much of a diff..... i would go for the 1530 anyday over the vostro.....
