i called dell today to make sure that my order will ship on my estimated ship date (tommorow) they siad everything is on track and that it should ship on or before my esd. the thing is i already got it delayed for 7 days once so this is my 2nd esd, i'm not sure if i could really trust them

I also called the automatic service thing to check the satus of my order and it's still in Build stage.. not really sure how it can ship tommorow.

Has anyone been told the same, and if you have been told the same does it actually ship or not??

Demand to talk to someone about your delays. Its one thing to have ridiculous build times and its another to not even follow the dates they give.

Congrats. Boxing takes 2 - 4 days. You should have it by sometime next week, depending on the type of shipping you got.

Thats no good. You should have called after the delay notice was sent and asked for a free upgrade to next day shipping. They would have done it without any fighting with them.

Maybe you can still call? Also, demand some compensation! You will probably get a $50 dell credit.

If you really are in boxing, then nothing really could delay delivery more than a day or 2, other than acts of God.

1- After reading many reviews and considering my needs I ordered a Dell Latitude E4200 12" screen directly from the dell.co.uk website on 18th October 2008. This latitude range is supposed to be Dell's new flagship range with Dell instant on feature. As I was ordering from the website, I made all my purchase options according to what was available. I telephoned Dell sales to confirm the order and the salesmen gave me a

    delivery date of 23 0ctober 2008.

This was confirmed in a proforma later that day. The money was transferred from my account as expected.

I felt one month was quite a long time as this was a new model and Dell should be able to fulfil orders sooner in today's climate. Despite asking for a colour version as advertised on all their promotion material this was not available.
    FIRST DISSAPOINTMENT

2- I heard nothing from Dell or the salesmen, except a further order number confirmation.

On the 20th October 2008, I checked the Dell online tracking site to see what was happening. The tracking indicated that the machine was still in production.

3- I telephoned The salesmen to see what was happening. There was only an answer phone message stating that

'due to high demand deliveries would not be available until 24th November'

    SECOND DISSAPOINTMENT

4- I felt this was an unlikely reason as these machines are made to order, so I tried to telephone the salesmen again but only received an answer phone message. I emailed the salesmen to find out what was happening and received a failed delivery email reply.

The salesmen was totally unavailable to help me!

    THIRD DISSAPOINTMENT

5- Today 7th November 2008 I have an automated email from dell as follows... and I quote in FULL! with no edits, except my order number in asterisks

    ---------------------------
    Dear Customer,

Your Dell order ************ has been cancelled
Because of a problem with the combination of components we cannot complete the order.

Please contact your sales person to place a new order or to arrange a refund.

    Thanks,
    Dell

    ------------------------

FOURTH HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT, (yeah and thanks dell!) it took you 6 weeks to discover that you can't build a machine!!!

6- So I sent an urgent email to the salesmen instructed and again this was returned as follows

"A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:"

Again a blank wall from Dell, So my salesmen is dead, sacked, run back to India (I could never understand his accent anyway) or changed email addresses so as to avoid the posy of angry customers maybe.

The automated email did not even acknowledge me as a customer by name, no apology for not being able to meet their second deadline and a request to contact a salesmen who can't be reached

    FITH HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT

7- In addition I have no latitude e4200 computer and no offer of any future of getting one 2 months after my order.

Has anyone else suffered this kind of inept sales and service from Dell?
If I can't get the brand new flagship latitude e4200 model I ordered, can I get my money back with interest for the time they wasted?
Is Dell in trouble, have they got huge production problems and are stonewalling their customers?

My thoughts are that Dell have let me down really badly, by

    - Offering a machine that they can't produce
    - Twice promising a delivery date they can't honour
    - Removing all contact from my sales personnel
    - Saying they can't build a machine 6 weeks after order
    - Sending an automated email as if this was trivial matter

I will of course make full and formal written complaint to dell in respect of the above matters. But it would be interesting to hear back from any other abused customers from similar situations, to see if we can piece together what is happening here and if Dell have really lost the plot .

    Any thoughts and advice appreciated.

    Richard, feeling really

Wow, that sucks man. I'm fortunate I've had prompt service from Dell. I would try to send this up the corporate ladder.

    Uh... wow...

MyZeroWaste, if I were in your position, I'd just forget about Dell altogether and take my business elsewhere. :S

As a consumer who is more than willing to pay for what you want to purchase, that kind of service is completely unacceptable. You may spend even more time trying to get calls higher up the ladder, so just do what will always hammer the message home, give your money to someone else. Product/brand loyalty can be overrated.
