    well even if they do offer something better in two weeks you won't have your laptop by then. so all you have to do is cancel and order the newer one.

    Well even if you order now, you still have a month before you even get the computer.

    Well, first you should decided whether you want a 17 or 15 inch computer. I doubt that Dell will make any serious changes to their lineup in the short term. They just rolled out the new models pretty recently and are having some production issues as it is.

    Just my .02.

    I'd be pretty shocked if Dell came out with an 8700 model anytime soon and downright flabbergasted if they put it in the Inspiron line. They really have absolutely no incentive to do so for the foreseeable future (and the unforeseeable as well, for the most part).

    * 2.80GHz, 6MB L2 cache, 1066MHz FSB

    Dell just came out with all new models recently, and they are flying out of the factory much faster than they can produce them, so I doubt they will be rolling anything new out anytime soon. Probably the next major rollout will be in January or February of 2008. Also, don't forget that with computers and technology in general, something new is always on the horizon... If you have that mindset, you'll wind up never getting a new laptop. Just be smart and look for good deals / coupons and you'll be set.
