I recently returned my 1705 becuase the resolution was too much and the size was a bit too big to lug around for school use.

I'm going to be buying a $1,999 lapton from dell this week and am scared of what I am hearing on the 1405's. I was thinking of going with the 1405 and ultrasharp lcd.

However I am now thinking I am better off to get a loaded 1505?

    Any comments?

    Thanks much

e1504 is quite big to carry around also. Unless you do gaming on the road. I like e1405 better to lug around.

we have decided to go with a 14 inch screen...

I think the e1405 is the best buy for the buck... i dont want to be cheap though.. iwant to get the most out of this laptop.. no gaming, but wouldnt mind the video card upgrade as I do alot of photoshop work..

However the e1405 doesnt have a video card upgrade option? only onboard?

you don't need to worry about the gpu so much for photoshop; it's 2d (that's cpu territory). you want to make sure to get a lot of RAM, preferably aftermarket.

Correct - the E1405 does not have an option for dedicated graphics. That was the primary reason I opted for the E1505 instead, though I really liked the idea of having the smaller notebook when traveling. I get my system today and I'm hoping that it isn't too big. We'll see.

I've considered the d620 as someone suggested here. My hesitation: price, lack of a TV output, and appearing to have less desirable card ports - express card for example. However, the d620 build quality and lighter weight are very appealing. Can anyone offer their opinion/experience with e1405 vs. d620? As far as 14" duo core, for the price and intended purpose seems they either are best value.

Sucks that the ultrasharp is getting such bad feedback..

When the E1505's starting arriving at doorsteps some people complained about the screen, but I got mine and it's nice! I've checked out others in BestBuy, and there's not much if any difference (on some, Mine is better). I have the LG screen, FWIW. Maybe it's just a matter of Dell's different screen manufacturers.

Do you have the 1440x900 resolution?

I cant make up my mind on which screen to get...Standard would be the 1280x800 but it doesnt come with truelife...

Well, Mine is 1200 x 1680 or something like that. It is the Ultrasharp. I like it, but I'm sure for some people the text would be too small.

It's all down to personal preference, I would suggest going to different stores and playing with the resolutions available... that'll give you an idea of what you want to buy.
