To anyone whom is considering purchasing a dell notebook of any kind I recommend you study their web site. Dell has good deals but you have to look around to find them. For example, if you were to select a computer that has an instant savings of value x because its on sale and then open a new tab in your internet browser and build the same device to the same specs but not from the sales page the end result would be 2 exact same builds on the exact same system with a deference in price that will often range in the hundreds of dollars range. The only downside is that even though there is no cost difference if you buy from the sales page you are sometimes forced to install crapware (yes even on the Vostro series) but for the sake of nearly $400 CND I choose the one on sale which forced me to choose vista business (which I wanted anyway), dells network support, and quick set.
My Vostro 1700 is a Canadian build; the options for either 7200rpm HDD or 256mb Nvidia card were unavailable as options. Though, as this is the now 5th PC in the house hold and is primarily a work semi-play notebook the 128mb 8400 go is plentiful for the occasional playing Day of Defeat Source, Starcraft and my all time favourite Commander Keen.
I was not lucky enough to escape the audio problems that occur with most dell notebooks. At first it had struck me as odd for the audio to skip on many applications after a lot of cursing, troubleshooting and research I realized I needed to remove my 56k modem, instead I put a piece of electrical tape around the audio leads (for extra shielding) that run physically under the modem and the problems went away for a few weeks; it did come back a bit though, so I disassembled my entire Vostro for the second time and took the modem out. The audio has never been clearer. I have the high resolution screen at 260nits, 9 cell battery and all the wireless options 1505 802.11a/b/g/n draft wifi card and bluetooth. They all work excellent, especially since I can use my Sony Ericcson K790a as a wireless presenter, mouse, camera and modem with Rogers.
But the point of my post is not to review but to show; that is because, when I was looking to purchase my Vostro 1700 I couldnt find any good comparison shots to show the true size. So with my K790a mobile phone I took a few pictures as I waited for my defrag to finish. Enjoy!

-
Ya its almost worth the same as your American Dollar (well I think your american, sorry if you arnt I probably just confused you).
But yes, we have the new "Le Gaye" colours for our money. Purple($10) Pinkey Orange($50) Baby Blue($5) and **** brown ($100). $20s alright, but still too colourfull. -
